Buggy…

St Michaelmas Daisy and Bee

Took the little ZS3 out on a very small nature walk – about 6 blocks to the Nature Conservancy’s empty lot. I was testing a little “old person” modification to the ZS3. Namely – the ClearViewer , a little gizmo invented by an old person for old persons. Makes it possible to actually see the LCD. Normally, I just “point and pray”. But, this this helps.

Slumping off into boredom…

I am slumping off into boredom this evening. But, there are worse things than being bored.

Maybe I am bored with dieting. Hope not. It has only been since Wednesday noon. And I am sure that the 12 sticks of butter AKA 3 pounds are still firmly attached to my person.

The Dead… Try 2

Scarlett Begonias - Day 2

Took the same camera out today and went looking for Scarlett Begonias. I suspect that the San Francisco area has way better begonias than Arlington. We have those red and white and pink things that are avoided by insects and loved by commercial landscape companies.

Scarlett Begonias - the B/W version

We do not have cable TV – I am trying very hard to avoid finding out what latest lunacy the teapotheads are  preaching. But unsettling crumbs slip in around the NPR and Newshour edges. Where did we go wrong? What sort of children did we raise? And, will the elders and hopefully the youngers too –  wake up from our naps in time to stop those crazy 30 and 40 somethings running for the US Senate? One seriously wacko senator can cause a whole bunch of trouble. Two or three working together … It is enough to make me agree with one of the teapotters wishes – repeal the 17th amendment.

This is Day Two of the Diet of 2010. The Diet didn’t really start until lunch yesterday. And, it isn’t dinner time yet. So, I suppose I have 24 hours of dieting. We don’t have a scale. And 24 hours is really too soon for any good results.

The Dead…

Scarlett Begonias

Three extra pounds have taken up residence on my person. That would be 12 sticks of butter. Time for drastic action. Must get  back down to the sub-125 level. ASAP.

I am not liking the begonia picture so very much. But, I put it there – so there it stays.

Last 24 Hours of Summer

Gotta Love Japan's Cartoon Trains and Subways

Last day of summer. I was going to go for a nice long walk – but – while walking to the grocery store I tripped over one of Arlington’s lovely sidewalk bricks. Scraped up my knee and hand. Nothing busted – so – not a problem. But, I spent the rest of the day lounging around with my knee on ice.

The accident was on the way to the grocery. Harris Teeter gave me a couple of band-aids – so I patched myself up and did my shopping.

Starting to think about becoming an Ex-Pat again. Carlton favors Vancouver. This is one of the good things about being a renter. You can seriously entertain just saying “F- It”. And leave. I have stopped being amused by Christine, Newt, Rand, Joe etc…

What did I click on to deserve this?

Ok, you all know  my “old woman wardrobe rules”:

  1. No elastic waists – ever.
  2. Nothing from  Talbots
  3. Only one thing at a time that a teenager would wear.

Well, the four of the last five websites that I visited had a Talbots ad for my viewing pleasure.

Do they know about my rules? Do they think I have any influence?

If I do have any influence – I hope it is not in the Fashion Arena.

If  I have any influence and you are rich or even “comfortable” – read this:  The Angry Rich

And everyone should go outside within the next couple of nights and look up. Even those of us who live in the city and can not see a single star. Jupiter – best viewing since JFK was President. Check it out. Speaking of JFK, those Talbot’s ads remind me of Jackie O. They must be trying to remind us old crones of when we were young and Camelot was live on the Potomac.

In case anyone is slightly interested in all things solar – but not too seriously – the ever popular: Spaceweather

A visit to the local grave yard…

The late Senator Byrd of West Virginia

Senator Byrd – the long time senator from West Virginia – is one of the more famous residents of “Columbia Gardens”. Says something about West Virginia – neither of the Byrds wanted to be caught dead in West Virginia.

At the Stone Shop.

I wandered over to the stone shop – wanted to make sure that there were no chunks of rock with my name on it.

The Airness was a year old yesterday. I love the form factor. I would really like a larger solid state disk. I only have 128Gig. And, I little more power. But, I don’t see myself replacing it. In fact, I am not sure that the MacBook Air isn’t an evolutionary dead end.

Sad day today – this is the last day of the pool. The pool is heated. It could stay open for another week. Summer is still here.

I know, I know

Maury School Play Ground

Don’t mess with the theme. But, I can not help myself.

This theme is most likely not a keeper unless I can tweet some sort of conformity into it. I don’t think it will “play well with others”. Sort of like the teapotheads.

New theme is gone for now. Sorry you missed it. I was good while it lasted – but it did work well with the old posts – which means that the new posts will not play nice with other themes. Too fussy for me.

Evil Eye From Georgetown Cat

Georgetown Fat Cat

Went hiking in the wilds of Georgetown today. Nothing ever changes in Georgetown. Everyone is always rich. Tourist buses always drive by the house where JFK lived. And I always like walking around Georgetown.

I am getting less and less amused by the political scene. But whats not to love about Jon Stewart and Stephan Colbert having “political” rallies in DC right before the election. (Also right before Halloween.) Should that not be a wake up call to any American with a brain? And what about you, Bill Maher? What are you going to do?

Carlton is watching  wrestling on TV. Is that a sign of Alzheimer’s? Or is that a political statement? Since Linda McMahon, who made her money in the WWE is trying to self-finance her way into the US Senate.

But, as a country we have gone down some bad roads before … we always corrected course before any last damage was done. Maybe we be lucky again.

Some days the light loves you

Ornamental Grass
Monarch Butterfly

So, let us just enjoy the light and leave politics aside for today.

Investments. I always wanted to own a salt mine. So, I bought some stock in a salt mine the other day. That is pretty low tech.

Tech. Decided to spring for Apple Care for the Airness. $250 for two more years. Health Insurance for the computer.

Well…

Well, yesterday it seemed like a good idea to root for Christine O’Donnell. Now it appears that she will win.

Since I live in the US of A, for now… no matter how amusing Sen. O’Donnell would be – now it is time to get with the program and send the teapotheads back to where ever it is that they came from.

These guys (of both sexes) make Tom Colburn seem totally rational.

May you live in interesting times. I fear that I might be too old to see the end of “interesting times”. It will not be boring – the twilight of my time.

Leftovers… from the last sunrise.

All you good folk in Delaware – Get out tomorrow and vote early and often for Christine O’Donnell. I think it is a closed primary. Pity.

Yesterday, I mentioned that I destroy earbuds. Well, I just checked my Amazon “Order History”. Turns out the pair that I have about demolished is 25 months old and the cost per day amounts to 9 cents per day. So, I am not as bad as I thought. New earbuds on order.
