Well, if it was the last sunrise, it was a damn fine one. But, I seriously hope it is just the last in my week long sunrise series.
Nobody is Promised Tomorrow. . .
In our neighborhood, everyone has a flag for 9/11.
Or…
Carlton hurt his hip playing tennis this morning. He can not play tennis. He can not ride his bike. He can not walk upstairs. But he can lay in bed. He can sit in a chair. He can drive the car. So, things are not too bad.
The sun was behind the Washington Monument. It looked a bunch better in real life.
In real life – it looked like the “base” of the monument was on fire. Here it sort of looks like a beaver has been gnawing on the monument. Not a real good effect.
Not much to report. Started looking for plane tickets to Kona. Gotta get a mammogram appointment. I hate those things. Not the mammogram. But, the queasy feeling – what if they find something. No, I am not one of those people who would say “Thank god, they found ‘it’ early”.
I know three people, all of whom were perfectly fine in early August that are dead today. Feeling a little poorly. Off to the doctor. Off to the PET scan. Off to hospice care. Off to the cemetery. In a month. No one is promised tomorrow.
Don’t we all wonder? How will I take the news? Will I die with a degree of grace and peace and no regrets? What if I don’t get the news? What if I just have a massive cranial bleed? Will there be anything left on my “must do list”?
Here is today’s sunrise shot. The Washington Monument is sort of lost… But, I like it.
Well, today, in honor of approaching autumn… I went thru my clothes. Any summer stuff that didn’t get worn is ready to go to the Goodwill. And I added new jeans and a sweater from JJill, a 50 cent dress from the flea market, and a belt and black cashmere hoodie from the consignment shop. I must say that when I weighed 20 pounds more – I spent less on clothes.
I dropped in at the Apple store on my way to the consignment shop – no new stuff in stock as yet.
We had a little wrapping paper emergency this morning. Carlton was going to regift a present – but had no wrapping paper to reuse. I never thought I’d say “Thank you” Martha Steward. But, on her website – Martha has a perfectly fine down-loadable wrapping paper. Print it out. Add a little double sided tape and you are done. In case of emergency, Check it out.
Been working on sunrise photos. Since the sun is rises at a civilized hour these days.
Today, I went to our neighborhood’s monthly big flea market. If you ever tossed something in the trash or a Goodwill Box – and decided that you wanted it back – our flea market is the place to come. You will find it.
On the way home with my treasure – a 50 cent dress – I went looking for butterflies. Found none. But this unknown bug is almost as colorful as the flea market.
I was slipping into a deep dark funk about the fate of life on the planet after the upcoming elections. Decided not to worry – as long as Obama is President. We survived “The Contract on America” – even Bill Clinton survived. The republic will survive – but it will not be pretty. All bets are off, if come 2012 the tea potheads win the presidency. Will I be too old to live the ex-pat life? Ah, nobody is promised tomorrow and the first Tuesday in November 2012 is many tomorrows away.
Now, what I want to know is: “Why didn’t that rabbit turn around so his front end was in the sunlight and his back end was in the shade?” I took the “scenic route” home from the volunteer job today and found the rabbit. Think it is too hot for butterflies. I might have to put learning about butterflies off until next spring.
Been busy this week at the volunteer job. I am doing my annual inventory of our paper files. Trying to be sure we have paper records for all 2,000+ employees and that they are all tucked away in the file cabinets. It is sort of like “reading the shelves” in a library – but you don’t ever get distracted by what you are “reading”. But, with luck – that job will be all finished by Friday.
Just looked at the new Apple toys. Of course I want them all. Just like I want all the clothes in the JJill fall catalog. Nevermindthat I leave for warmer climes come mid-autumn.
That was not what I planned. It was an OOPS. Didn’t go check out the theater at the Beck/Palin circus today. I was too lazy and too afraid that I’d be mistaken for one of “them”. There were lots of “them” getting on the subway. They looked like me. White and aging fast. The good news – I didn’t see many young people.
