Sunday in Bermuda

This doesn’t look like the 25b bus

Public transport didn’t start until 1030,so I had a late breakfast and caught a second ferry to the Royal Navy Dockyard, which is where the cruise ships land. I was underwhelmed. A couple of summers in Skagway sort of got me all over cruise ship landing pads. Also, it finished off any mind game I was playing about taking an around the world cruise. Anyhow, I can now say been there done that don’t need to do it again.

Except for the cruise ship area, Bermuda was closed. Because it is Sunday and people had a day off to enjoy. Imagine that.

Some photos from today.

Bermuda’s #1 industry is tax shelters.

Bermuda: Where rich people come to visit their money. Bermuda is a lot like Switzerland, it reeks of old, deep wealth.

Like Kona, Norwegian Cruise Line makes a weekly visit here. But it spends a couple of nights,
Last year’s America’s Cup loser.

I liked this, it is one of Larry Ellison’s America’s Cup boats. But it is repurposed as public art. Seeing’s this made the trek to cruiseworld worth the effort.

Part of the old navy installation that hasn’t been converted to retail, yet.

There are unrestored parts of the dockyard that look interesting, but they’re behind chain link fencing.

Will put up a sunset photo later. If there is a sunset.

Sunset tonight looked like sunset yesterday. This lady lives next door. She likes chasing lizards.

And a fine day it has been…

The obligatory wildlife shot … my lizard.

Caught the first ferry into town this morning for breakfast and a few provisions. Had my usual breakfast of poached eggs and an English muffin. But these were seriously enhanced with avocado and salsa.

Wandered around town for a while. Town seemed to be off to a slow start. Think everyone is trying to recover from an overdose of cricket.

Queen Elizabeth Park

Picked up a ferry/bus pass and came back “home”. And I got moved into my real room. (It wasn’t available until today.) It has a better view and a bath tub.

My little patio and palm tree, with lizard.

A I spent the rest of the day lounging and floating around the ocean, technically I think it’s the sound. But it is salty and 82degrees.

and, another fine sunset to end the day.

All Good

Finally made it to my lodgings.

And I have no food or drink and not a chance of getting any until tomorrow morning.

But a glass of water and a granola bar was a feast when consumed on my dock. I have another granola bar for a snack tomorrow until l make it over to town for provisions. Town is closed today for a cricket match.

It is almost sunset, so I must wander back to my dock. I will add a picture if sunset is good.

Good enough.

Next Stop – Bermuda

0600 this morning.

I will not pretend to say that I am all packed and ready to go. And it is after 8PM. And, the electricity will be off in my building from 11PM to 3AM or some such thing.

I really should spring into action.

But no, I am lolling around, enjoying the after-effects of a nice dinner with my Asylum Sisters. Trying to decide should I take the new iPad or the old iPad. I am not taking any camera gear. Shamu 2 will handle the photos.

Guess I should get out or my chair and back to work. Because I am out of here in 11 hours ready or not.

Got a place to sleep…

Greenbank – Bermuda – my lodgings.

And, I decided on the old but interesting place with a dock to sit upon.

Interesting Bermuda fact – the entire country seems to be closed on Aug2 and 3rd for a cricket match. Sort of like “Superbowl Sunday” – but cricket being cricket it takes a couple of days to complete a game.

Carlton and I spent a lot of time in New Zealand years ago and after a couple of months, we managed to figure out cricket. We had to get past stopping play for “tea” and the silly scores – things like “120 not out”. But the end of our stay we found ourselves saying – we have to get back to where ever we were staying because cricket came on the one TV channel at 4 PM.  It was a LONG time ago.

After these lodgings – I have been assured that there be wifi and there might be coffee. Not counting on either.  I am planning on 5 minimal technology days. But, there will be coffee. Trust me. There will be coffee. Tea doesn’t do it.

To work for a little tomorrow morning. Then back to the old bat cave to do laundry and toss a few things in a bag. The Asylum makes it very easy to just go away.

Traveling my way out of the doldrums…

Of course, I don’t have anywhere to stay. But, hey, at least I’ll be somewhere different.

Carlton and I went to Bermuda once – way back in the ’70s. I seem to recall he crashed his scooter. Or did I go to Bermuda with the starter husband? No, I think it was Mr C. Things are starting to get mushy up in the old brain box.

At this late date, my choices of places to stay are rather limited. As usual, I am a person of extremes. Should I go low budget and stay at the scruffy place by the ferry dock with no pool or A/C or TVs but with kitchenettes and a dock to swim off of.  Or, should I just bag it up at one of the big-ass deluxe hotels. Right now, sitting on the dock of the bay sounds best. Heck, I could even round up something to eat and open my own bottle of beer.

I have my nice new unused passport. The medical evac package that I got for Australia is still in play. Bermuda uses US money. And Bermuda uses US electric outlets. I am good to go. Except for the little problem of where to sleep.

Unresolved discontent continues…

Mother Nature is trying her best…8pm

Just looked up and what do I see from my chair – but a lovely rainbow.

I was furiously shopping for a last minute trip to Burlington Vermont or Bermuda. That is what I do when I get bored, I move. Or change men. Or take a trip. Taking a trip seems like the best option. Moving doesn’t make economic sense. And, I am mostly over men – been there – done that – got the tee shirt – over. Which leaves “trips”.

Oh and for me at least, today’s yoga class was wicked hard. Lots of planks. Also abductor-rippers.

Almost August?

6AM Today.

Almost August??? What is happening summer? When you are old, sometimes the day crawls by, but the years go by way too fast.

Still no bugs for my macro lens – so I turned it on a flower.

Saturday…

Don’t you just hate it when you can’t find your croquet set?

Still no bugs to photograph. Might have to go farther than my own garden box.

garden box week 13

No bugs, but the garden box is looking good. Especially Ray, the rosemary bush. And the yellow echinacea.

weedlot week 13

I did a little serious weeding and wacking on Friday and the weedlot looks pretty good all things considered.

  3. Read one dead tree newspaper.
