Nobody is Promised Tomorrow. . .
This Blog started in 2001 as a Trip Log to record a summer in Alaska. Since then, it has morphed into my online diary.

New outlook continues. Had a completely fine day without swimming and without any nosebleeds. Walking, reading, lounging, photography. (Beer and Coffee too).

No pictures today. But, a new outlook.
Yesterday I had yet another nose bleed. That sunk me into a vast depression. Was I going to just hang out in the hotel room and wait to start dripping blood again? I couldn’t just say “screw it” and go home – because – I don’t get my crown back until Feb 29. Shit shit shit.
Well, after lunch yesterday, I got on the bus and went to the Doc-in-Box. After a short wait – I am seeing Doctor Webb – a perfectly fine burnt out ER doctor.
He looks up my nose and says I am just unlucky to have broken a vein. And, that it will just have to heal. And, I’ll just have to wait. He could cauterize it – but, he said it was 50-50 if the procedure would help or hurt the problem. He said, if it was his nose – he wouldn’t get it be cauterized unless it wouldn’t stop bleeding.
And, he wrote me a prescription for another 12 months of blood pressure meds. (Full disclosure, I let my blood pressure prescription run out last summer – 165/118 – really should do the meds!)
Today, I went to WalMart and got BP drugs. While I was waiting I purchased 2 new bras. Hardly La Perla.
And, the best news. Weighed myself at the Doc-n-Box. Not fat. Celebrated by having a BIG chunk of bread pudding for breakfast.
NEW OUTLOOK: I’ll stay out of the ocean. I’ll lounge around. Walk 5 miles everyday. Read books. And, when I get back home I will not have to go see the doctor for BP drugs – and avoid being nagged about all the other things that the medical profession wants to do to me. And, my tooth will be fixed. I’ll just have to keep my head above water.

I know nothing about these two photos. I am sure that they predate my tenure. But, I am pretty sure that he still has that sweater. It is some sort of polyester that will survive the Aztec Apocalypse. They were on an old flash drive that I was cleaning up yesterday.

Nosebleed returned today while I was on my daily swim. I wasn’t that bad – but unsettling. Guess I’ll have to confine my swimming to the pool. Swim around like the ladies in the Ester Williams films of the 1950’s – with my head resolutely out of the water!

Trying to get all the cookbook scraps rounded up. Rounded up and moved off the Airness.
Three weeks from today we will be enroute home. Actually we will be hanging out in the Honolulu Airport.
Ah, the Republican Follies continue. The Red Meat Republicans just don’t like Mr Romney. I don’t see what they see in Old Sweater Vest Santorum. I guess they see “Not Romney”.

Twenty hour trek home has been planned. Tickets have been purchased. Nothing much more to do until it comes time to pack up some flat rate boxes for the USPS. It would cost $57 to check a bag home. That is 3 big and 1 medium box. I am not a pack animal.
I am never going to be Netjet rich. I guess I am first class rich. But, I got first class rich by being too cheap to go first class. You can not frugal your way into a Netjet. At least not a Netjet that will make it to Hawaii. West Coast the Hawaii is a serious long no refueling haul.

Happy to report that another 22 hours without nose bleeds or dental events.
Got tickets home leaving March 7 … arriving late March 8. But, I still have to get us to Honolulu. From Honolulu, we go to Seattle, from Seattle to National Airport, to the Metro, to the Elevator to Home. Gotta go through TSA twice.

In 10 minutes – I will have been free of cranial issues for 24 hours. I even ventured out for a little swim. Went for a couple of little walks. Gotta get out out of this medical funk.
But, the Republican Follies continue to provide much amusement. And a friend emailed that his sailboat is laid up for 6 months in New Zealand getting the “osmosis treatment”. You should always know someone who lives on a sail boat. They have way worse problems than you can ever imagine.
Up until now, 7PM – ish. It was a much better day. But, the damn nose bleed came back. Not a Maxi Pad gusher. Sort of a Lite Days event. But, it is still unsettling.
Oh well, look at the brighter side. It didn’t happen yesterday when I was hopping up and down the road going to and from the dentist.

Today, I made two trips to the dentist. It is 1.25 miles each way. I went at 8AM to check them out and I guess they were checking me out too – because they decided that I could come back at 12 and the crown process would be started. At noon, I returned. At 3PM I was back on the road, walking back home.
A day doing dentist stuff was vastly finer than yesterday.
It is time to get my life back. Poor Carlton has been forced to enjoy another two days of sandwiches. Well, today’s sandwiches are augmented with deviled eggs. I love deviled eggs. (Do atheists eat deviled eggs?) So between dentist visits, I got some hard-boiled eggs at the local convenience store. And converted boring hard boiled eggs into Divine Deviled Eggs.

Not the cookbook. It is still OK.
It is myself that is falling apart. This morning while I was contemplating making a peanut butter, liliko`i jelly and banana sandwich – I got a nose bleed. A maxi-pad volume nose bleed. I got over that. Decided that I should not go swimming. Wouldn’t want to attract sharks. But the ocean was pretty rough anyhow. Ok that is problem #1.
Next, whilst dining on spam musubi the tooth that I had patched on January 4 by a most unsatisfactory dentist came apart. A call to that dental practice – and – I find out the unsatisfactory is no longer working there. And, no way they can see me until February 22. So, I am off on Dentist Quest. This is complicated by the fact that I am car-free. Many phone calls later I find a guy who will look at me tomorrow morning. And will start the repairs on Monday. With luck … if I am happy how the practice looks, maybe the dentist can start the repairs tomorrow morning. I so didn’t need this.
Now, “they” say that bad luck comes in threes. Don’t know if I have had 2 or 3 bad things today.

Almost out of cookbook purgatory. Which is an improvement, because for the last 2 weeks I have been in cookbook hell.
Gotta love Carlton. He really doesn’t care what he eats – as long as the green beans are over cooked, the beef well done, and no garlic at all. So, while I have been working on the cookbook he has been cheerfully eating sandwiches. Well, these are the Sandwich Islands, are they not?
But all I need to do now is finish tweaking up the cover – front/back/inside/outside.

I think the pictures need to be smaller. They look a little constrained…
