Another Fine October Day

Nice day for a ride/walk in the grave yard.
Nice day for a ride/walk in the grave yard.

We have had a run of sweet weather. I can take this kind of climate change! But, I am sure the muggies will be back soon.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Plain old tuna on whole wheat.

I plan to have made a deposit on “suitable” old lady lodging by Labor Day. No rush. The lease on this place lasts until April 2016.

What’s with that grave yard. It is about a mile from our apartment. So, it makes a nice 2 mile round trip walk for me. And, Mr C likes it because he can talk story with the grave diggers.

NOW LEASING

Exciting Downtown Clarendon.
Exciting Downtown Clarendon.

Still windy. But 10 delightful degrees below normal. And in July below normal is a good thing.

Mr C had his pre-radiation CT-scan today. According to Carlton, Dr Bobby was less positive than he was one week ago. Well, I had a nice Merkel Creature free week. The less than positive vibes from Dr Bobby was not a surprise. To me at least. Carlton is in a lovely “fine” state of mind.

Why don’t white folks ride buses? Seriously. I was out on walkabout this afternoon and decided I had made FitBit happy and I was tired, so I hopped on a homeward bound bus. Including me and the driver there were 18 people on the bus. There were black people, brown people and beige people on the bus. But only one white people – me. Attention white people: Your Metro Pass works on the bus and the bus is always cheaper. And sometimes faster.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: My favorite – turkey, swiss and coleslaw.

Truck Mascots

Too windy for flying creatures today. So, I went out in search of what the Brits call “car mascots”. I only found two and they were actually “truck mascots”.

Today’s Enjoy Every Sandwich – Grilled Ham and Cheese.

Flying stuff.

Twin bees - one flying one not.
Twin bees – one flying one not.

Today, I was trying to get flying things using my old Leica 14/150 lens. Bumble bees aren’t too hard.

Eastern Amberwing

No success with flying dragonflies. Had to settle for this little resting Eastern Amberwing.

We had a nice old fashioned Sunday dinner – chicken, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy and overcooked green beans. (Mr C likes his green beans overcooked.) And today’s

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Think we’ll have chicken quesadillas. Maybe, I should make fish tacos. Gotta have guacamole and beer. So, the Mexican theme.

Cabbage White Butterfly Day

Not a very good Bug-In-Flight image. But, it is the best one from today.

Lazy day today. My FitBit keeps trying to get me to go out and walk another 2,000 steps. Not happening. I did do yoga. But, the FitBit doesn’t give much credit for yoga.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: We’ll be having cheese burgers for dinner.

A Mr Rodgers Afternoon in the Neighborhood.

Across the street.
Across the street.

There used to be a bank and a dance studio across the street. Now all that is left is the bank vault. Who knew that banks really had vaults.

Flying Bee.

New photo project, flying insects. You have been warned. There will be more.

Ice Cream!
Lagniappe Ice Cream!

After I finished the bee project, I noticed people eating ice cream in the next block. I wander over, hoping to snag some photos. I snagged a BIG bowl of lemon sorbet instead. I am not sure why there was free ice cream behind this office building. And, yes, I ate the whole bowl. Enjoyed every bite. Every calorie.

Death watch for Mr C is on hold for the indefinite future. But, that doesn’t mean we have stopped –

Enjoying Every Sandwich: Grilled cheese and tomato is on tap for this evening.

SQL coding project is on track. It is better than working Suduko puzzles. Nevertheless, I left the stove on after lunch today. Mr C has been eying me suspiciously. I didn’t tell him that I left the stove on when I was in my 30s.

Hey, Beer Man

Trucks are verboten in Arlington. Exceptions are made for the important deliveries.

Nice day today. Cool and cloudy – sort of like a “bad” day in Kona in winter.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: One of my favorites today – turkey, swiss and coleslaw. Feeling a little lazy tonight – I might deploy sandwiches for the evening meal as well.

hot Hot HOT

Stupid Peg Selfie
Stupid Peg Elevator Selfie

It is hot today. But, it is July. So, what do we expect?

Mr C is getting set to start another 6 weeks of radiation to his head. Maybe in a couple of weeks. I fear that he will start glowing in the dark.

I am back to writing SQL reports at the volunteer job. After 50+ years, I am still slinging code. Who would have guessed?

No reason to stop:
Enjoying every sandwich: Mr C’s fav – tuna melt. I am going to make chicken and rice for dinner.

I wonder if they make underwater housings for my new camera. I wonder – would I take an expensive camera underwater… Who am I kidding – no way. LOVE the new camera.

The Merkel Cell Remission Continues…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On April 10 we learned about Merkel Cell Carcinoma. The skin cancer that makes you wish you had melanoma. See post.

Today we saw Doctor Bobby. Doctor Bobby was happy. Doctor Bobby wants to nuke Carlton’s head for another 6 weeks. To “clean up” the rest of his scalp. The rest of his scalp has several non trivial infestations of squamous cell cancer. This is sort of a palliative move.

Mr C might have to move into the old folks asylum too at this rate! I’d better start looking at bigger units.

Carlton is in Merkel Cell remission/denial – but we are still

Enjoying Every Sandwich: Grilled ham and cheese – and maybe a beer for me.

Got your rocking chair, your big shades, your little dog, and your politically correct lawn jockey. Whats not to love?

Going to see the radiologist tomorrow.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Chicken salad on whole wheat.

Thinking today

Nature Conservancy Weed Lot.
Nature Conservancy Weed Lot.

Whilst doing my housework and cooking this morning – rather than listen to old time rock and roll – I thought. Thought about the old folks asylum.

The two “preferred” asylums have waiting lists. You have to pay to be on the waiting lists. Maybe 4 years down the road – there will be a streetcar stop out front of one of the asylums. (Note to self: Never make decisions on as yet unbuilt government works projects.) Our lease here runs thru April 2016. You have to pass a physical exam before they let you move into the asylum. The asylums cost big bucks. These are the “facts”.

Now, my plans

Plan A: Scrap the whole asylum idea and just wing it.

Plan B: Sign up for a nice as possible two bedroom unit assuming that Mr C will still be alive and able to pass the physical when a unit shows up. If no unit shows up in the next 16 months – well – that could be a problem.

Plan C: Also sign up for a tiny cheap studio for me. If Carlton is not able to pass the physical to get in – or if he is dead when the lease is up – I snag any studio that comes up. I can use it like a hotel room/insurance policy for me.

Plan D: If I end up in a studio – I can get on a list to upgrade myself to a nicer unit suitable for one person.

These asylums are called “Continuing Care Retirement Communities”. Once they take you in; they have to keep you. And take care of you, no matter what. That is the “insurance” component. And, it is what we/I need.

Cool Cloudy Day …

On the 41 bus

Not very friendly. Not at the old ladies asylum.

I made a stealth visit to one of the potential old ladies asylums this morning. I wanted to see it without a sales person being sure I didn’t see anything unpleasant. Wasn’t sure I could just wander around.

But, as luck would have it – today has been cloudy and cool. As a result the gardening committee was out in force. They were more than happy to talk to me. Especially since I volunteered to help with the weeding. One of the ladies took me inside to look at her apartment. I had only been in the more expensive models. She had lived in her apartment for over 10 years. It is one of the older/cheaper balcony free ones. A perfectly fine apartment. No view. No balcony. But never the less, fine.

The lady who showed me her apartment said that she was on hospice care – but that for now all that meant was they brought dinner to her and if she didn’t show up at the nursing unit by 9:30 every morning – someone would come check on her. BTW – her apartment was much more guest ready than mine is…

I tramped around the neighborhood. Your basic stripmalled America. It is just barely OK for those of us who are car-free. The tramping around took care of my FitBit for today. I got on the 41 bus and came back home. Mr C was waiting for his lunch…

So Enjoy Every Sandwich: I made Cheeseburgers.
