Silly woman, I have been feeling sad about killing off the old Dell that I used for a file server and tax preparation machine. I will load it up with a nice new copy of Ubuntu. Maybe someone will adopt it …
I decided to move away from Open Office to LibreOffice. It seems to be getting more attention from the open source universe. It opens all my files. I haven’t thrown my killer spreadsheets at it yet. But, to be honest – OO couldn’t handle all my spreadsheet tricks either. We’ll see.
Got the Airness to mount the disc drive of the new computer.
RIP Daniel McCracken – you saved my sorry ass more than once.

Wow,
Paraphrased from the obit – McCracken was still teaching at CCNY until his death at 81. Last spring, Mr. McCracken had students do projects in Android, a smartphone operating system developed by Google.
He wrote the references for our time (ok – my early years) – when a computer less powerful then today’s phone filled a floor of a building and took a lot of skill and perseverance to bend to your will for relatively simple tasks. Skill, perseverance, and lots of dead trees filled with his and others instruction.
He basically went out feet first teaching the latest linux variant to young – Android.
Wow.
Kudos Mr. McCracken.
