San Diego – Day 04

Walk along the water. Today’s only “activity”. Public Art.

The plan was to walk along the water until I got hot, tired, or bored. Then head up through “town” and back to my hotel. And stop for a little snack somewhere along the way.

These gentlemen were filling HUGE cardboard boxes with fish.
Small sign of the times.
I don’t think a blow-up tentacle qualifies as public art. But it’s still fun.

OK. I am hot hot hot now. Seriously overheated. Time to head for the shade of tall buildings. But I am trapped. There is no way out. And, I refuse to turn around and go back. I am hot. I want shade.

OK. This is an escape room. I am stuck. There is no panic button. The massive Convention Center has me trapped.

There is a sign. Points up these stairs. It says “CITY”.

Made it up. 105 steps. I counted. What now? Look for the stairs down.

I walk a couple more blocks. Up on the roof deck of the Convention Center, looking for signs of life or stairs to the CITY.

This looks like the escape route.

I made it down. And the CITY was there.

I may have ended up in the “wrong” neighborhood. But, hey, it’s 11:05 AM. No worries.
It’s a very interesting neighborhood.

But wait. A promising-looking spot for a snack.

Not busy at 11:40 in the morning. But. It’s never too early for crème brûlée.

And it was a really good crème brûlée.

By the time I made it back to the hotel, I had been 4 miles, and that was enough for me. I have truly enjoyed my time in San Diego. All that remains is to find something for dinner tonight. Pack up. And to get myself to the airport by 8:30-ish tomorrow morning.

Next stop Kona.
