After Carlton retired from corporate life at age 50, we never stayed home in the winter. Winter was for traveling around. And summer was for working in some park or the other. Park Service legend is that a ranger took one step backward too many and went off the ledge here while giving a ranger talk. I am pretty sure it never happened.
