Working at Keeping Kona Country

Guess nobody has checked the instruments at the airport yet.

This dog hangs out about 1/2 block from our hotel. I have never seen him/her off the porch. He/She could get off. But, why?

This guy hangs with his ladies down by the farm market. Isn’t he great looking? Makes me feel bad about eating chicken. We hear him every morning.
And, my underwater camera expired today. I been expecting it to flood – but it just died. After it gets good and dry it might be useable as a dry land camera. What to get now? Anything. Wait until next year?
Just Another Day…

It seemed a little chilly this morning – but it has never even been 11 degrees centigrade in Kona. Hope the rest of the airport’s instruments were working better.

Later, at the canoe race, I sneak a picture of Mr C.

As you can see, we stay at a really upscale place. Actually, I don’t think this guy is a guest. I think he just passed out. Because the pier was busy with the canoe race – no place to pass out on the pier this morning.
Another Day In the Fish Tank

Sort of a do nothing day. Had major insomnia last night. The insomnia extended into my naptime.
Actually, I worried myself out of my nap. My lower lip hurts – so – since I have skin cancer on my mind – of course – I imagined myself into a raging case of lip cancer. I imagine having half my lip cut off. Pain and disfigurement. When Mr C got home he said he didn’t think it was anything and that even if it is a little surgery will fix it right up. He showed me where he had had some cancer removed from his lip and he still looks fine. Insomnia complicated by hypochondria. Sheesh!
Cleaning the Fish Tank

Went for a nice swim today – but, nothing special spotted.
Decided to clean out my “fish tank” – AKA all the photos of fish that I have taken over the last 2 winters. I started with this November. Finished November.
The Airness thinks she needs a firmware update. But, I have no problem with her – so, I am going to wait until I get back home. If it ain’t broke – don’t fix it.
(I still think my underwater camera is going to flood.)
Holy Fishballs, Batman!

Grand swim fun yesterday when I encountered a nice fat fish ball. I followed it around for 15 minutes or so, hoping that some other swimmer would come by to give scale to my picture… But no luck. So I headed back to shore thru the ball.
Carlton did go to the dentist and he is getting a crown made. So, he thinks he is safe from being nagged about going home for the next 4 weeks.
It is laundry day. I am being held prisoner by the dryer for another 3 minutes according to my iPod. Best go get the clothes…
three shades of honu

Unlike the last turtle photograph https://www.pegbethany.org/newblog/?p=8452, this photo was taken from the pier.
Went for a nice long swim today. Thats about it. Oh, and Mr C decided to go to see a dentist late this afternoon.
After 20 Years – New Digs

After 20 years in the same room, we had to move this year. Except for our diminished storage area, we like it better than the old room. And, after we leave, they are going to make the closet even smaller. Carlton likes to hang up his clothes. As it is, he has almost all the closet and 83% of the drawer space. I have two hangers and store my clothes and other stuff under the bed.
Fishy Sunday Day

I haven’t taken the camera out to sea in about three weeks. I have been too busy worrying about my husband dying to worry about my camera dying a watery death. Jumped into the wetsuit and went out this morning. Found a little school of Yellow Tangs.
19 Years Today

We have been married 19 years today. We don’t seem to have any plans. Except to make it to 20 years.
Thank you, Carlton for 30+ years. Thanks for being my best friend. Thanks for grand daughters. Thanks for winters in the sun. And for summers in National Parks.

We have at least one grass/brush fire a month. Our village gets less than 20 inches of rain a year. And, that usually comes in several massive rainstorms. But, the good news is – there is plenty of water handy for dousing.
Friday

Chilly winter day here in Hawai’i. But, we had some great kalua piggie and cabbage for lunch. Living Local!
4 miles in the sun

OK, I figure that by the time I get to the end of the runway I will have gone 2 miles. Then I can turn around, walk back to the hotel and 4 miles done easy.

But, have I gone 2 miles from my hotel room? NO. According to the lying pedometer.

Still walking. Not Yet 2 miles.

Yep, “Kapu” means what you think.
By the time a took a little detour to the grocery on the way back home – I had logged 4.6 miles on the pedometer. Think I earned a Reeses Peanut Butter Xmas Tree.
