Lots of nice fall colors on this afternoon’s Fitbit finish up walk. Fitbit assures me that I have walked 750 miles since April 17 when I got the thing. I have no idea how that little pink piece of plastic is able to nag me into walking.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: How about some nice quesadillas? That is is my default sandwich or choice.

Back Into this century

Carlton - September 25, 2014
Carlton – September 25, 2014

Here we have a picture of Carlton, taken today. He said “I look old”. Well… Guess I shouldn’t tell him that I did the soft focus trick to make him look better.

Things are pretty laid back around our apartment these days. And that is very fine.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Turkey, swiss and coleslaw.

Back in the last century…

Yosemite - Wawona
Yosemite – Wawona

I think this was 1997. Mr C was wearing this very same sweatshirt today. I never felt it was my job to buy his clothes. I think he found that sweatshirt somewhere. I do buy him a pair of shorts or a pair of chinos from time to time. Also, undies. Not shoes, sox, jackets, hats, or shirts. Guess I am the bad wife.

Cloudy, chilly, thinking about going to Hawai’i kind of a day.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Grilled Ham and Cheese.

Today, I am an old woman.

Exciting Downton Clarendon.
Exciting Downtown Clarendon, Saturday.

Today, I am an old woman. There should be a ceremony. I should get presents.

All I got was a credit card receipt for my deposit at the old woman’s asylum. Sigh.

On a serious note. Have to agree with Representative Charlie Rangel. America needs everyone to chip in and share the sacrifice. It is time to reinstate the draft and a war tax, to give the American people a genuine stake in decisions on going to war.

Happy September Equinox

Coming soon to a tree near you.
Coming soon to a tree near you.

One might call this the autumnal equinox. But, that would be wrong- because it it the equinox south of the equator too. So, an all inclusive “Happy September Equinox”.

Gee, I don’t like that picture as much as I thought I did. Maybe this better?

Enjoy Every Sandwich – Grilled ham and cheese and some of the remaining summer peaches.

Going to the old folks asylum tomorrow afternoon. To get us on the waiting list. I am so not looking forward to being on a waiting list at an old folks asylum. Let the bingo begin.

Happy Birthday Little Brother

Julie and James, ca 1985
Julie and James, ca 1985

Feeling sort of old and tired today.

We enjoyed watching Ken Burns’ The Roosevelts. Funny thing about Ken Burns – back when he did the Civil War thing he looked like he was working on his Boy Scout badge in slide shows. Now, he looks like a garden gnome. Never mind – he is one fine documentary film maker.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Haven’t a clue – what ever it is it will be something that doesn’t get my squeaky clean kitchen dirty. Peanut Butter and Jelly on a paper plate maybe? Maybe I could nuke some bacon on a paper plate and have Peanut Butter and Bacon.

It must be autumn – the new apples have arrived

The queue at the Apple Store was long enough to cheer the stock holders.

It was a lovely early autumn day – ideal weather to queue up for fresh apples. Or rather iPhones. It was mostly a guy thing. But not 100%

I ended up with two giant cauliflowers today. Today for lunch we had spaghetti and meat balls with cauliflower playing the spaghetti role.

Carlton declared himself to be in good health today. Every time he does that the wheels fall off. I am happier to say that he is in remission.

Enjoy every sandwich – thinking about making chicken, cheese and peach chutney quesadilla for dinner.

Manhole Covers

I wonder how many different kinds of these water meter covers exist on my regular walking paths?

Got the paper work together for the old ladies asylum today. Will make an appointment to take them down and turn them in before we head out to Hawai’i.

Mr C and I were wondering about old ladies asylums in say – Colorado. I wonder if they have a “smoking” room. Do they serve Alice B Toklas brownies with afternoon tea?

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Teriyaki Chicken with pineapple.

Thursday

French Polyneasia - 1986
French Polynesia – 1986

Those were damn good times.

Spent most/all of my work day trying to disinfect one of the nurse’s personal computer. It still “runs” XP. And had no anti-virus protection at all. She also lets her kids use it. And, she does all of her bill paying and banking on it. Yesterday she told me that her computer was acting “funny”. I told her to stop using it and get it fixed. She decided I could fix it. So, she brought it into the office this morning. I was shocked. Who knew that people had such malware infested machines! I have lived too long in the protected cosy Apple world.

What if Microsoft had created the first “smart phone”?

As a result I spent most of the afternoon at home doing my hospital work. Not a problem.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Tuna on wheat.

Oh yes, I upgraded to iOS 8 today. Haven’t noticed much difference. But, I haven’t spent much time playing with the iPad either.

Manhole Cover #2

A Water Meter
* A *

Back in the day – we had custom made in the USA manhole covers.

Today, I came to accept the Carlton and I are not too young for an old folks asylum. One of the nurses in our office got a call this morning – her 80 year old Dad had just had a stroke. In 15 minutes family members were dispatched to the family home and Dad was en-route to hospital. Hopefully Dad will be OK. He had just visited our office last week. He was the picture of health.

If we were at the old folks home – they would take care of getting us to hospital. And, if we lived, out of hospital. And, take care of us when we are back at the asylum. Nobody is promised a healthy tomorrow.

Enjoy Every Sandwich: Another turkey-swiss-coleslaw tonight.

And now for something really strange. This afternoon, I caught Mr. C obeying the traffic laws while on his bike. And there wasn’t a cop in sight.

Mr C stops at a stop light! Wonders never end.

Almost Done

Peg & Carlton in Rangiroa - ca 1986
Peg & Carlton in Rangiroa – ca 1986

Need a break. Maybe in Rangiroa atoll in French Polynesia.

And why do I need a break. I need a break because I spent most of the afternoon filling out the application for the old folks asylum. I think the application is an alzheimer’s test. I would be finished – except my printer ran out of ink. I have to submit 3 years of tax returns. And the ink finished about 4 pages before the tax returns were all printed out. This process is sort of like trying to join an exclusive country club or buy into a New York co-op apartment.

We still have to sign a bunch of documents. Including an attestation that we are not sex offenders. Think about it. Senior Sex Offenders…

I don’t plan on going anywhere until the spring of 2016. I’ll be old enough for seated yoga and dinner at 7PM by then. Maybe.

Enjoy every sandwich: one of my favorites – turkey-swiss-coleslaw.

Manhole covers

Small "manhole" cover
Small “manhole” cover

Well, manhole covers are a heck of a lot easier to photograph than say birds or hornet! And, they are rather interesting.

Trying to get it together enough to complete the application to the old folks asylum. I keep “selecting” myself out of the picture. I am “too young” to move into such an establishment. But, this is a good time to consider such a move.

1.  The move would not be until the spring of 2016.
2.  Carlton is in remission right now. So, I am not a distracted caregiver.
3.  When Carlton (or I) get really sick, it would be good to be somewhere with help.
4.  If I don’t decide, someone else will.
5.  I am pretty sure I care more than anyone else about where I live.
6.  Not Cherrydale nursing home!
7.  Not Vitas Hospice (owned by RotoRooter)!
8.  But, I keep thinking “I am too young.”
9.  Nobody is promised tomorrow.

The intellect is willing. But the heart isn’t in it. Yet. And, the “good” places all have waiting lists. Just get on a waiting list. Just Do It.

Enjoy every sandwich – cheese and chicken quesadilla.
