What’s not to love about October? Great weather, interesting leaf action, October Fest, interesting beers, and Halloween. Followed by Día de Muertos which is a trifecta starting on October 31 and ending up November 2.
Enjoy Every Sandwich: The cook declared today “sandwich day”… It was teriyaki chicken sandwich for lunch. Grilled ham and cheese on tap for dinner. With the very last peach of the year.
Today we got our preliminary acceptance letter for the old folks asylum. Meaning they decided that we have enough money to be on the waiting list. They also sent me 4 coupons for free meals at the asylums. And – if we can pass the physical – we can go use their gym. That is so not happening. For one thing – our doctor is on maternity leave. We also go ID badges. ID badges for the old folks asylum. Sigh.
Yet another go at wild life photography.
Read about our black squirrels. They escaped from the zoo long ago.
Enjoying Every Sandwich – Cheese burgers, I think.
Have I mentioned lately that I am loving my new camera. I have lots more to learn about it – but I am saving the learning for when I am in Kona. For now, I am thinking what lenses to take. Maybe just the “lens that cost as much as a car” – my beloved Leica 14-150. Don’t want to start lugging 20 pounds of camera gear around as I move into my 8th decade. The Leica lens weighs in at 520 grams. The Oly body is 500 grams. If I want to keep my kit under 5 pounds – I need to make some careful choices. Because I have to take batteries and a cable or two.
Well, today Mr C said “We should be going to Kona in about 5 weeks.” I am reminded that everything was “fine” around here on September 27 last year. Things stayed fine until Oct 3 when an alarming bump showed up on Carlton’s chest and the wheels fell off. So, I am more than willing to leave for Kona in five weeks. I am just not so willing to actually buy tickets. I got our money back last year. Not willing to count on that happening again.
Lots of nice fall colors on this afternoon’s Fitbit finish up walk. Fitbit assures me that I have walked 750 miles since April 17 when I got the thing. I have no idea how that little pink piece of plastic is able to nag me into walking.
Enjoy Every Sandwich: How about some nice quesadillas? That is is my default sandwich or choice.
Here we have a picture of Carlton, taken today. He said “I look old”. Well… Guess I shouldn’t tell him that I did the soft focus trick to make him look better.
Things are pretty laid back around our apartment these days. And that is very fine.
I think this was 1997. Mr C was wearing this very same sweatshirt today. I never felt it was my job to buy his clothes. I think he found that sweatshirt somewhere. I do buy him a pair of shorts or a pair of chinos from time to time. Also, undies. Not shoes, sox, jackets, hats, or shirts. Guess I am the bad wife.
Cloudy, chilly, thinking about going to Hawai’i kind of a day.
Today, I am an old woman. There should be a ceremony. I should get presents.
All I got was a credit card receipt for my deposit at the old woman’s asylum. Sigh.
On a serious note. Have to agree with Representative Charlie Rangel. America needs everyone to chip in and share the sacrifice. It is time to reinstate the draft and a war tax, to give the American people a genuine stake in decisions on going to war.
One might call this the autumnal equinox. But, that would be wrong- because it it the equinox south of the equator too. So, an all inclusive “Happy September Equinox”.
Gee, I don’t like that picture as much as I thought I did. Maybe this better?
Enjoy Every Sandwich – Grilled ham and cheese and some of the remaining summer peaches.
Going to the old folks asylum tomorrow afternoon. To get us on the waiting list. I am so not looking forward to being on a waiting list at an old folks asylum. Let the bingo begin.
We enjoyed watching Ken Burns’ The Roosevelts. Funny thing about Ken Burns – back when he did the Civil War thing he looked like he was working on his Boy Scout badge in slide shows. Now, he looks like a garden gnome. Never mind – he is one fine documentary film maker.
Enjoy Every Sandwich: Haven’t a clue – what ever it is it will be something that doesn’t get my squeaky clean kitchen dirty. Peanut Butter and Jelly on a paper plate maybe? Maybe I could nuke some bacon on a paper plate and have Peanut Butter and Bacon.
