Enjoying Poor Health Today…

Monumental Scaffolding
Monumental Scaffolding – taken from the living room balcony with the ZS-15

They have been doing “something” to the scaffolding over the last couple of weeks. I still hope they put lights on it for July 4th. If it were in Paris – they would put fireworks on it for July 4th or rather Bastille Day. But, the Eiffel TowerTower is iron – not a pile of stones.

As for me, I have been enjoying poor health today. Nothing serious. Just a little sinus issue. I did stay home from work today. I curled up with a nice SQL manual.

Playing with the magnolia

P1090398-Edit-3Playing around with Pixelmator before I kick Photoshop Elements and maybe iPhoto out of The Airness.

Started playing around with some bastard SQL report writer that might let me get some meaningful data out of our new computer system. I fired it up and it started the session by telling me:

Disclaimer: The OHM/Web Report Writer tool, this document, and optional training are all geared toward Users with a fairly high level of understanding and skill with SQL scripting (essentially, computer programming).

I think I should ask for a raise.

P1090546-EditAnother rainy day. But, I couldn’t very well call in “wet” today since I played the wet card on Friday. It was a raincoat, umbrella and Keen water sandals sort of a commute.

Girl Power!

Clarendon - 2012
Clarendon – 2013

I culled my 200 images down to 3. Final image tomorrow.

Lazy cool cloudy summer day. In theory Sunday morning is when I do my domestic chores. (Carlton does his on Friday morning.) I started off by hitting the grocery stores. Yep, stores. I need the  exercise. And, I really do like to buy groceries. So, I walked to two stores. And, carried the food home. Exercise done! Fridge full! Then I started up “my” machines – dishwasher, clothes washer and drier and let them do their thing. I did minimal kitchen cleaning and even less bathroom cleaning and called declared things Clean Enough.

Still hating my ISP. (Verizon DSL). See no reason to reward Verizon for poor service by “upgrading” my $25/month DSL to $85/month FIOS. Comcast is equally hateful and expensive. It is almost enough to make a person move to KC just to get Google Fiber – where $120 per month gets you T1 speeds. And $300 gets you 5Mbps speed for seven years.

OTOH – I could dust off my hacking skills and tap into one of my neighbors WiFi. I can’t believe I said that? Maybe I could offer someone a nice bottle of wine in exchange for a password.

Bike Race Today

Clarendon Bike Race
Clarendon Bike Race – ZS15

The Clarendon Cup Criterium Race is one of the regular summer events. It was cool and cloudy for today’s racing.

I ended up with 200 photos. That is less than usual because I only watched the women’s race. I culled the 200 down to 29. By this time tomorrow it will be down to 5 or less.

At this instant, I am hiding the the bedroom. Mr C is in the living room and clicking madly between Martha Stewart and the Belmont Stakes. Martha Stewart and horse racing are two of my least favorite things. Actually, I am mellowing as far as Martha goes. Unlike most men caught with hand in cookie jar – Martha just went off to jail in West Virginia, did her time, and got on with her life.

Did I mention that Mr C is off for some Mohs surgery on this head this coming Thursday. It is an out patient procedure. And, shouldn’t be any big deal. BUT … he is more than a little concerned because he knows that he put having that thing fixed off at least six months. The Mohs surgery guy operates one day a month at our facility. Mr C says that he is going to go have something cut out every month until we go to Kona at the end of October.  As you can see, he did learn something as a result of the recent unpleasantness. As Granny would have said “A stitch in time saves nine.”

More than you ever wanted to know about Mohs Surgery.

Off with his head

So, on this rainy day – I played around with Pixelmator – which I got free from the App Store a couple of months ago. But, today was the first time I fired it up.

Pixelmatored version.
Pixelmatored version.

I called in “wet” this morning since we are having a rainy day. Since I had an unexpected day off and a day inside, I did some computer housekeeping. This is when I found Pixelmator in my Apps folder. I think I like it. It speedy and small. And supports layers. But, not RAW. It is no Full Photoshop. Which I neither have nor need. But, it seems like a small and fast replacement for Photoshop Elements. PSE is not one of my favorite programs.

Magnolia Post Processing

P1090398-Edit-2
another look at yesterday’s magnolia

No new pictures. Cloudy today. And, since “I work for food” my volunteer job boss gave me 3 quarts of ice cream. Needless to say, I had to make it home quickly. Very quickly. The ice creams are Banana Nut, Coffee Toffee and Strawberry. Very tasty. I had to sample each one.

Free “young adult” audiobooks are back this summer. Two each week. I got 5 or 6 fine books last summer. Sync Audio – Check it out. You have to give them an email address and use Overdrive to do the download.

Note to the young …

Note to the young reader. Do not consider a career as a Kiddie Photographer. You ain’t never going to get 4 kids to do what you want. But, I did mention I need to make some pictures, didn’t I?

Also took flower pictures today.

First Magnolia of 2013
First Magnolia of 2013

Trust me kiddies. Magnolia are easier than children.

I seem to be in a coffee tint mode today. It’s not sepia. More like spilling coffee or tea on a B/W photo. I’ll have to revisit the magnolia post processing.

Summer Time

Watching the Hunky Lifeguard Boy
Watching the Hunky Lifeguard Boy

Went up to my “private” pool this afternoon. And that is about all I did except, I went to the volunteer job. And, Mr C spent about 3 hours at his volunteer job. He got tired and came home early. Then he joined me up on the roof.

The picture above was taken with my iPod. It’s camera is marginal at best. Which brings me back to my new cell phone quest. The iPhone has a sweet camera. Much better than the camera in the Nexus 4. I am still leaning towards the Nexus 4. Cost being the decision maker. OR, I could just keep using my iPod, antique cell, and rubber band solution to the smart phone issue.

Gotta Get Out and Make Some Pictures…

Haven’t been out to take pictures in a while. I didn’t even put my camera in my purse today. So, even if something had warranted a picture – it couldn’t happen.

The Joint Commission (not that kind of joints!) is inspecting our hospital this week. The Joint Commission is sort of the Good Housekeeping Seal of hospitals. And, like Good Housekeeping is paid for their Seal – hospitals pay The Joint Commission to inspect them. And, the hospitals get all crazy when the commission comes knocking.

Anyhow, I am keeping a very low profile at work this week. I so don’t need inspecting.
