The tail of the whale – from our lanai
The saffron finch

Nobody is Promised Tomorrow. . .
This Blog started in 2001 as a Trip Log to record a summer in Alaska. Since then, it has morphed into my online diary.
Absolutely nothing going on. And that is just fine with me. I haven’t even gotten my sorry (but thinner) ass out to take pictures.
I walked, did yoga and swam today. After all that, I spent the afternoon reading. I am reading that great 1950s novel by Pat Frank, Alas Babylon .
Forgive me father… Today I ate a chocolate chip cookie. It was good. I was bad.
Mr C, blessed with hummingbird metabolism, had three.
Nobody is promised tomorrow and nobody said that life is fair.
Think I need to go out and shoot some pictures.

On the fat front… The Daisy Dukes will button now with a little squirming. But they are not going to be worn again. 70 is waaaaaay too old for these shorts. I wonder how long is it going to take to beat this old body back into shape? Is it even doable? I logged 5.4 miles on the old pedometer today. I sort want one of those fitbiit things. But that is just because I like toys. Not because one will make me one bit fitter.
On the Carlton health front… Carlton appears to be doing fine. The skin that was burnt by the radiation is all pink and new. Actually it is the best skin he has. Of course we’re not so sure about what’s underneath that skin.
On the techno toy front… I really have not missed the computer. This is about the first time in 30 years that I have not had a computer with me 24/7. Ok, except for the great North American train trip in the summer of 2012. I missed the photo editing capabilities of my Mac, but that is about all. I don’t think I’ll be taking a computer with me on future trips, unless I know I’m going to have some work to do for someone. But, how much work do little old ladies do anyhow? And I love the dictation feature… And the cell access. And the ability to tether our Kindles to it. Gotta be able to get new library books.

Things are fine in exciting downtown KailuaKona. I logged a little over five miles today. One mile was straight uphill. One mile was downhill. And the rest dead flat. BP 114/81. Weight 130. According to the machine at Walmart. If that is true that is OK.
SUPERBOWL tomorrow. Our American High Holy Day. And we have to root for the SeaHawks, since Paul Allen owns the SeaHawks and all those palm trees on the right side of the photo.

Hawai’i has some great dogs. This big guy is one of my favorites.
Today, I went to my first yoga class in over 20 years. It was a beginner class. I failed to distinguish myself. I still have a lot of flexibility. But my strength has gone and taken my balance along. I will try to hit a couple of beginner classes every week. I’ll show up in my old school knit shorts and t-shirt attire, with my hotel towel and cheap-ass sticky mat. I refuse to buy into the lulu lemon school of yoga.
The good
At least I hope this is good. Mr C got our unit for the next 2 years at our same high rent. The way I figure it, two years will give us enough time to come up with Plan B. Also, I figure that Carlton’s cancer will be most likely to return within two years if the Death Star didn’t get it all. So, two years is a good time.
The bad

My toe doesn’t seem to be up to the walking program. Well, that is too bad. The toe will have to get with the program.
The ugly

And this is why the diet/fitness program. I was going to get rid of these shorts this year anyhow. They are waaaaay tooooo short for a 70 year old woman. But they are going to fit. I hope.
Took this Photo with my old iPod while on my walk this morning. Every thing was ready for its arrival. Carlton was called in for an extra shift. Tour buses were stacked up. The most unsavory folk had been removed from the pier. But the passengers never arrived. Seems they couldn’t get the tenders launched. That would make you real happy if you were a passenger — since the tenders are also the lifeboats.
But, I had a nice swim. A nicer swim sans tenders. And I logged 6.77 miles today. I good thing since friends has us over for lunch. Shrimp, avocado, croissant, pie, ice cream and wine. All good.
