High School Canoe Races Today

High School Canoe Races

Big morning of high school canoe races this morning. High surf warning on tap for tomorrow – but I don’t think it will amount to much here in our bay.

The Beached Jet Ski Barge - Landing craft in background.

No action at the beached barge since yesterday noon when our local landing craft tried to jerk the barge back into the ocean.

For every-one’s viewing pleasure – the barge landed right in front of a local webcam. One of our Church of Whats Happening Now congregations meets at that location on Sunday mornings. Maybe they can pray it off the rocks…

And why exactly are there no new pictures…

Kona Dogs - Board Dog

There are no pictures today, because The Airness is running out of disc space and I MUST finish up the 2010 photos so I can move them off to the USB drive. Then, new pictures will be allowed on the computer.

Time to put my liberal wallet where my liberal mouth is … no tax cuts for the wealthy. Check out Give It Back For Jobs. When the government fails to do the right thing – the people must. My share will be going to the Arlington Free Clinic. It will not create any jobs – but it will lend a hand.

Avocado and chicken salad for lunch today.

Welcome 2011

So far 2011 is looking a lot like 2010!

I am liking my Virgin Mobile Internet access. Not only is it faster than Skywave that I have used for the last few years here in the hotel, it is faster than my DSL back in Arlington. This is 3G. There is 4G service back home – just across the street from our apartment. It would be really sweet if I could tell DSL to take a hike and use 4G wireless.

But, first I have to get home. Time to start seriously shopping for plane tickets back.

New Years Resolution – finish the photos from Japan. I want to make a book. A book that I can look at when I am in a wheel chair at the old ladies home.

For our New Years Day meal – I nuked some pork tenderloin and apples. No black eyed peas. Not a part of local tradition. Going to the Shinto Temple for fortunes is a part of the tradition. But, I had to take a pass on that. No car. I got plenty of fortunes in Japan. Maybe some year of the Tiger fortunes will work in the year of the Rabbit.

Speaking of fortunes… one of our many groups of wackos – they seem to think that The End is Near. Very Near. As in May 21, 2011. Check it out. Problem is these folks said the world was going to end in 1994. If at first you don’t succeed – try again.

I thought I had to wait until Dec 21, 2012. I shall start planning my “End of the World” party soon.

Thanks Martha!

Martha Steward DIY Wrapping Paper

We had a little wrapping paper emergency this morning. Carlton was going to regift a present – but had no wrapping paper to reuse. I never thought I’d say “Thank you” Martha Steward. But, on her website – Martha has a perfectly fine down-loadable wrapping paper. Print it out. Add a little double sided tape and you are done. In case of emergency, Check it out.

Been working on sunrise photos. Since the sun is rises at a civilized hour these days.

Sunrise from the balcony.

Moving, not all bad

Lucy in the trashroom, with recycling

In the old house, Lucy was on the wall. For the last six years Lucy has been in the back of my closet. Today, Lucy was in the trash room. Moving is not all bad.

Does anyone still use archival "printfiles" anymore?

I moved a whole pile of “printfiles” from the house. I haven’t used them. According to my rule – if you moved it 6 years ago and haven’t used it since – it doesn’t get moved again.

My beloved Fujitsu P1120 gets ready for donation

Today, I started working on donating still usable technology and recycling the rest.

Love the rightwingers.

  • Sarah tell her followers to  stop and and harass anyone with an Obama bumper sticker. That got my Obama T-shirt out of the drawer and on my back.
  • Some guy on Glenn Beck’s show says the the tanning salon tax in the health care bill is a racist attack on white folk.
  • And, the good people at the Heritage Foundation want to make March 23 “National EMP” day. Honest. Check it out.

I don’t think any of these are “April Fools” – just the folk on the scary edge of the Republican Party doing what they do best…

Area 51 Alert

A flying saucer sighted out the bedroom window

Sort of dialed back the search for housing today. We a going to see a more modest place tomorrow. Cheaper and smaller than were we are now. But, it is reported to be a very well managed condo. It has a gas stove, which I like.

I think this will be a turning point … if we like it … we’ll sign up. If we don’t … we’ll concentrate our efforts at the pricey rental building that Carlton likes so much. Carlton is optimistic about tomorrow’s place. And he no longer hangs on to hope that we’ll be able to stay in this unit. As my old Latin teacher used to say as she handed out pop quizzes: There hasn’t been a miracle in 2,000 years, don’t expect one today.

Here it is March Madness time. My college: Texas Western had its only moment in the sun on March 19, 1966. It was much more than a just another game.

Unknown blue triggerfish
Unknown blue triggerfish

I think this is some sort of triggerfish. It has been hanging out around the pier most of the winter. And, I have been trying to figure out what triggerfish it is. It might be a filefish. But, I don’t know what kind of filefish it might be either.

Sort of a do nothing day today. This is the last day of Carlton’s “weekend”.

Our Swiss friend, Philip – who is sailing around the world – is sailing away this evening. Heading for Hana, Maui. He has a webpage. Check it out. I should use Philip as an inspiration for one of my bucket list entries – go around the world by plane. Or at a minimum take the train across the US and come back across Canada.
