Ah SummerTime

Things you see from the train window. Huge piles of “recycling”.
Things you see from the deck of a ship. Things you see from the deck of a ship. A wonderful old building surrounded by “progress”.

A nice day. Escaped from the asylum for a yoga class today.

For a long time, I dealt with constant dizziness and mental fog. I just figured it was an inevitable part of getting older. But then, I decided to look closely at all my meds. I stopped all of them. Three days after stopping the medications, the dizziness cleared up, and I felt mentally perkier.

I restarted the blood pressure meds and continued to be fine. Next, the unnecessary cholesterol meds that I just take to make my doctor happy. I was still fine.  All that remained was an allergy medication that I have been taking since the last century. Guess what? A few days after adding the allergy meds to the mix – the dizzy foggy feeling returned. I disposed of those pills.

Sure, it helped with the sneezing, but was it worth the constant fuzziness in my head? Absolutely not! Three days after stopping the medication, the dizziness cleared up, and I felt mentally perkier.

Intellectually, I know that old people are frequently over or wrongly medicated. But I didn’t expect that I would be one of those old people. I was wrong.

So, people. Watch those drugs. Just because they worked for you when you were 50 doesn’t mean they will still work for you when you are 80.

A Dull Woman’s Day

Just a simple crane.

I did stuff today. Very dull stuff. And, when you think about how old I am, dull is most likely a very good thing.

I did get my lodging in Kona lined up for the coming late fall/early winter. Halloween to Xmas Day again. According to my notes, I was ready to leave after about 6 weeks last year. I believe it’s because I cannot swim as far or as long as I could before COVID. Also, the air conditioner was broken. And the place has zero cross ventilation.  And many of my friends have either died or they are no longer coming to Hawai’i in the winter. Bottom line. I’ll be ready to leave on Xmas Eve as is my custom. Maybe I’ll train it back to the East Coast again.

Kyoto, Singapore, Switzerland, Dijon, Bermuda. All candidates for my “summer vacation”. It’s not easy being a dull old woman.

Photos Were Taken.

You gotta love a Bishop with purple hair.

And this is an Episcopal Bishop. You know Archbishop of Canterbury. King Charles not the King Chares spaniel but The King Charles III. The National Cathedral. A serious old-school religion. And the bishop has purple hair. Guess you gotta love the bishop is female too.

Nice outfits. The guy in white is the asylum’s “boy” chaplain/priest. I guess the higher rank you have the fancier outfit you get. Seems fair to me.

I totally behaved myself. Took 265 photos and culled them down to 25. And, I packaged them up and sent them to the chaplain. So, the job is done.

Another Gray Day

Roses are at their max right now. And they look very cheery on a very gray day.

It’s cool and damp again today. But not complaining. All too soon it will be blazing mid-Atlantic summer hot. And I managed to pull myself out of yesterday’s do absolutely nothing morass.

This is not to say that I was a ball of energy today. Not even close. But, I did manage some yoga and an almost brisk walk.

Tomorrow I have a little photo job. I have to take some pictures at a religious service. You know how desperate they must be if they need me to take pictures. Remember, I am the person who believes that we are NPCs in a cosmic D&D community.

But, trying to take this little job seriously, I checked the venue this morning. Well, it’s not like I actually spend any time in the chapel. But, I did know where it it is located.

The reason for tomorrow’s photo shoot. A rather charming wall hanging.

So tomorrow morning I will suit up, put my Pixel Phone in my pocket, and go off. Photos will be taken.

9 years of asylum living

Nine years at The Asylum. (A friend needed vertical photos of real not stock old people. This is what I came up with.)

Did nothing at all today. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zilch. But, I didn’t kill anyone. And Mai Tais were $3.50 at Happy Hour this afternoon. So, it’s all good.

I really did nothing at all today. That’s pathetic. Maybe I’ll do better tomorrow.

Nice sunny late spring day.

Today’s thrift shop score. Early 21st Century Prada Nylon Crossbody Bag.

Rarely do you score big at Goodwill. (1) they are smart enough to recognize a Prada bag – even an olive drab one – when on arrives at the donation center and (2) if Goodwill misses it – the eBay resellers will swoop in on it like the vultures they are.

But, there it was. I am 90% sure it is authentic. And if it’s not it’s a damn good copy. And it is surely worth the $4.99 that I paid for it.

That was today’s adventure. And no, I didn’t need another little purse. But, I know I’ll use this one because it’s the right size and very light. And, it’s Prada.

Nice rainy day

Used my last 3 sheets of exquisite paper today.

I made 3 cranes today. Out of my very best paper. It’s time to use the good stuff. Now, I just may have to go to Japan to get more really fine paper. Yeah, I know I could order some. But, what’s the fun in that?

And what happened to the paper that was 1/32 inch off-square? Well, it was bound like a book, so, I put it in our Little Library. If nothing else, someone will get a cool notepad.

Home – OK, What now?

Ray the Rosemary plant has never been so lush and healthy looking.

On the other hand…

Phlomis russeliana is not looking too good. Only time will tell.

I know it’s too early to give up on this plant. But?

Finished up all the chores that accumulated while I was wandering around. Time to plan the next escape. Switzerland? Singapore? Kyoto? All three?

No good deed goes unpunished. I bought 3 packages of origami paper in LA. Because I like to support small businesses that sell origami paper. 2 packages are fine. More than fine. Excellent actually. The 3rd and most expensive package is crap.

It’s nice paper. But it’s not perfectly square. So, it’s crap.

And, it was my fault. The paper was made in China. It was packaged in England. Chinese paper is always questionable. I know that.

This model uses rather a lot of glue. I was able to use the crap paper to make it. But, I see no reason to do anything with the new crap paper other than put it into paper recycling.

This isn’t an earth-shaking problem. Just annoying. How could I have been stupid enough to buy Chinese paper packaged in England in Los Angeles?

Home – Day 1

Cinco de Mayo Rose.

Back at the Old Bat’s Cave. Busy today. Doing things that need doing, paying,  reviewing, organizing, saving, shredding, tossing, etc.

But, the weather was nice so I got ample steps and aerobics in. And, every time my watch said “Step away from the computer”, I did.

Tomorrow is another catchup day.

Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico. Just playing.

Panama Canal Trip – Day 18 – Day Last

Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico. (Moving Train Window Shot)
It must be great to have a built-in phone shelf!
Facing future.

Back at the Old Bat’s Cave.

Got off the train at 1:10 this afternoon and walked into the OBC at 2:11. Not too shabby. That was 2 metro trains and 1 metro bus. And $1.

And what did I do when I got home? Very little. Watered my orchids, unpacked, washed all the clothes, picked up my mail, took a shower. Oh and backed up my computer. Now I am waiting on dinner. Brekkie was light and long ago.

I have to work on a report for the hospital and check my snail mail and various accounts. However, I’m feeling a bit fatigued from traveling. Therefore, I have postponed all the “important” tasks that require active cognitive abilities until tomorrow.

The trip was about 7,800 miles.

Panama Canal Trip Day 17

Made it onto my train from Chicago to DC with 15 minutes to spare. The train from LA was 3.5 hours late. We are leaving on time. Next stop. DC. Then The Asylum. Time to plan the next escape.

The Twilight Zone

Just finished dinner. Pretty good chicken enchiladas and a couple of beers. And I must take some time to reflect. I have had the greatest life. Good health, adventures, enough heart breaks to keep it real.

Panama Canal Trip – Day 16

New Mexico

Just starting through New Mexico. New Mexico is big and Amtrak is slow so NM takes all day.

Albuquerque

We seem to be stuck in the middle of New Mexico. And we are about 2.5 hours late. They just announced that we are waiting for a commuter train to pass us. And that should be in about 20 minutes. Amtrak has to yield to every other train.

When we do get going, we will be in no cell service zone and then it will be time for the G4 geomagnetic storm. So, time to nap.
Ps. Even more mistyping than usual today. Blame the phone.
