Getting Back to Normal

Getting back to normal.

Decided it is time to start cooking real food not food where Trader Joe or Whole Foods did 90% of the work.

Also, went back to the volunteer job today.

Not all normal – still no internet love from Verizon. But, I am still enjoying the freedom that being offline provides.

Got the closets measured for shelves and rods this afternoon. When you pay a whole lot of money – they take very good care of you. It is like assisted living – but the inmates are younger.

Save the Boob

It is not a very big boob. But, we small bosomed ladies have to stick together. Our “Let’s Make Virginia into Arizona” Attorney General has apparently been seen sporting a lapel pin with the bosom covered. Save Virtus’s titties!

In 1776, she had a nice pair of tits on our Virginia 4 dollar bill.

If she was good enough for George Washington, she should be good enough for Ken Cuccinelli.

The edge of suburbia

Here I am, down in the dog lobby – going online. Dare I say that at little time away from the internet has been a good thing.  I almost think that a 3G iPad – might replace my need for internet in the unit. But, I have been online since before the internet.

I am almost all unpacked. Except for the computer stuff.

While taking my boxes to recycling – I discovered a fine Pottery Barn dining room chair. It was a little dusty. I asked if I could take it, they said “Please – that way we’ll not have to pay to have it carted away.” My dining room chair is on it’s last legs. You have to sit carefully. I am liking the new chair.

Went for a walk today – as you can see – we live just on the edge of suburbia. The area doesn’t have the robust nightlife scene that the old place had. But, about all I ever did nightlife wise was to watch the comings and goings at 2AM when I wasn’t asleep.

All in all, life is good in the new place. Maybe even better than the old place. No, it is better than the old place. Old Army Brat training. Where you are is always better than where you were and not as good as where you will be next. But, at my age – I am not so sure about the wonderfulness of the next place. Isn’t there a Paul McCartney song about that?

bp and gs

Good thing I gots no internet – since goldman sacs and british petroleum are core holdings in my portfolio.

Took day off from moving – except for wandering around The Container Store.

Currently using the Apartment WiFi in the lobby – checking out the dogs. There is supposed to be 75 pound limit. As in 75 pounds of dog per unit. Some of the dogs must have been weighed when they were puppies.

Tomorrow we turn in the keys and check out of the old digs. Except for the kitchen, I don’t miss it.

No Internet Until May 8

Chaos at old place - April 27 AM
Chaos at the new place - April 29 AM
The moon came up while we were having dinner - April 28

Last night when the moon rose, over the Air Force Memorial, while we were have something nuked for dinner – life was good.

By this morning it was chaos again. And, Verizon said – it will take until May 8th get your cheapass DSL going – but – if you want really expensive FIOS – that we can do today. UP YOURS VERIZON. So, I am using the building free WIFI on the top floor. I so hate Verizon.

RIP?

Carlton is napping his way to the new apartment

Up to about 40 boxes.

About Carlton – he really is just napping. But he does look dead as a door knob.

moving butt shots

wireless - what wireless?

Boxed up the big old cheap slow reliable Dell for moving. I have to ready the TVs and stereo for transport too. Wouldn’t this be “a man job”?

Today, Carlton: went out for breakfast, played tennis, went for a bike ride, watched a little tv and read a book.

I packed, cleaned, washed clothes and changed addresses. It must be good to be a man. At least *my* man.

I broke out the emergency Guiness. And, I’ll say this for Carlton – he rode down to look at our new apartment building and came back with a fine Italian sub for lunch. And, a chocolate muffin. Seems that the apartment building was having a little Earth Day celebration. I am not so sure that one is supposed to celebrate Earth Day by eating. But, what the heck – it was a good sandwich.

Out Boxed

Over run with boxes

The bedroom is the empty box staging area. The living room is the full box storage area. Up to box #28.

The younger family members have urging me to “FaceBook”. I am resisting. But, I’ll say this about FaceBook. It does allow one to check out the former husband’s successful and younger – but heavier – wife.

Thank you Arizona – your state house has made me feel a little better about Virginia.  Apparently, they passed a bill requiring the Presidential Candidates submit a birth certificate to the Arizona Sec. of State. Check it out.

Since I feel that I don’t pay enough Virginia income tax – my foundation sent off a contribution to the Arlington Free Clinic. After that settles out, I’ll send some off the the Arlington Library. I was going to send it all to the Library – but that seemed a little self serving. And, this is not an exercise in self serving. Using an anonymous donation via the foundation keeps me off begging mailing lists – which is not  how I want my contribution spent.

Carlton gets married ca 1958

Before tossing the album from Carlton’s first wedding – some images went into the photo vault. I guess it could use a little tweaking and dust removal – but, it isn’t like I really care. Except I do like the whole 1950’s feel of everything.

Today, I packed some boxes, walked down to Clarendon (and back), while in Clarendon I bought Carlton a pair of bike brake pads for a belated Birthday present.

Peace and Grace to Dr Dorothy Height. We are so fortunate to have had her with us for so long.

one for the vault

if bullshit were electricity, carlton would have been a powerhouse

Something new – this is going into the vault.

But, as for the resume – it doesn’t actually say he ever did anything… I plan to have the last paragraph read at his “Life Celebration”.

Some things shouldn’t be considered too carefully.

  • Things like my 20 some boxes. If I can box all that stuff up weeks before moving – do I really need what is in the boxes?
  • Things like a big ass smelly expensive Lexus being recalled for a “software error”.
  • Things like changing your gas service online and getting “Error occurred while Calling the Java Method” message. That does not instill confidence in the gas company.

a day late from the vault

smallkidtime

I was so busy boxing yesterday that I didn’t remember to honor Carlton on his 75th birthday. So, from the vault – a picture of Carlton during his smallkidtime. Haven’t a clue about the identity of the big kid or man.

I took the day off from all things moving.

Fortunately, I sold most of my Goldman stock about a month ago. Sometimes the goddess looks after old women.
