This young man is definitely the one your Moma warned you about!

I work for food. Today my “employment” provide an entire homemade real cheese cake and a whole bunch of garden tomatoes. Life is good.

The local Bolivian community had their annual dance festival across the street today. I took about 700 pictures. Busily deleted about 600 of them. Will cull down the rest of them next week.

And, I found a new home for the big Grey Dell. It is going to be in a high school english class. I hope it is happy. Beats going to computer recycling in China.

Got the new kitchen computer setup organized.

The black thing to the left of the antique iPod is the keyboard/mouse. I still have my beloved IBM keyboard and a regular mouse for serious computer work. But the little thing works fine for just playing around.

Silly woman, I have been feeling sad about killing off the old Dell that I used for a file server and tax preparation machine. I will load it up with a nice new copy of Ubuntu. Maybe someone will adopt it …

I decided to move away from Open Office to LibreOffice. It seems to be getting more attention from the open source universe. It opens all my files. I haven’t thrown my killer spreadsheets at it yet. But, to be honest – OO couldn’t handle all my spreadsheet tricks either. We’ll see.

Got the Airness to mount the disc drive of the new computer.

RIP Daniel McCracken – you saved my sorry ass more than once.

Still no new photo. So, I have been polishing up some of the images that are still on the Airness.

Here we have the Sunset Grill in TorC NM. Everyday, I strolled past the Sunset Grill and saw the Open sign. I said, “Yeah sure.” But, surprise – it really was Open and on the last night in New Mexico – I had a fine dinner of chili rellenos and the ultimate New Mexican junk food – sopapilla.

We had one of those “September-ish” days today. The Weather Goddess doesn’t want us to give up all hope of ever turning the A/C off again.

I puttered around with the new Kitchen Computer. Rounded up printer and scanner drivers. Got the external DVD drive going. Installed my favorite Windows software.

Next task – clean-up the old computers. And, dispose of them.

After that – police-up the cables.

Boys and Girls, do not attempt the above self portrait at home if you are over 20. Unless you have already scheduled an appointment with your plastic surgeon. The results are scary.

Got the new little Lenovo computer working in the kitchen. It is currently a mass of wires. Like the HDMI monitor connection.

I liked the way the sun rising sun  turned the balconies across the way to gold. After I downloaded the images, I noticed that a man was standing on one of the balconies enjoying the sunrise.

Stock market was nicer to me today.

The Kitchen Computer has made it from Brooklyn, NY to Laurel, MD. Should be in the kitchen tomorrow.

Let us just say that this was a really ugly day in my personal equity portfolio.

The new Kitchen Computer – Lenovo Q150 w/Windows 7 – is supposed to arrive Wednesday. The current kitchen computer has sort of been the data “Trash Can” for the last five years. So now I am furiously weeding out the drive. I could just remove the drive and pop it in an enclosure. But, that really is sort of like renting a storage unit.

No matter how grim or unsettled things seem in our dysfunction country/world – things have been worse.

Continuing with revisiting my existing images.

Still thinking about my technology do-over. For a little while I thought about getting a MacMini and running Windows on it… But, that would cost lots more money and I sort of want to keep Windows nasty habits out of my Mac stuff. The Lenovo Q150 – $300 is my current pick.

Of course, I could get the MacMini Server… And, the Q150. Might as well, take money out of the stock market before it dives more.

I decided to stay off the foto-a-day wagon again – and just worked on post processing existing images.

Did I mention that I took a huge hit in the market yesterday? In true Peg fashion, I added to my positions. We’ll see how this works out when the market opens Monday.

Thinking about having a technology do-over. I have Snail Internet. Don’t see any reason (except to make my family happy) to upgrade internet until I get back from Hawaii next spring. I pay less than $20 a month for Snail Internet. Looking at $50 to $70 a month for  blazing fast.

Current “important” stuff:

• The Airness. Which still has a year to go on Apple Care.
• The elderly printer/scanner.  Apple does not recognize the scanner. But, it fits really nicely in the only possible printer location and Carlton can use it to make copies without my help.
• The dinosaur dell in the kitchen. It is ready for the Smithsonian. But, it works and does our taxes. (Ubuntu/XP)
• The tiny Fujitsu. It just sort of takes of space and plays print/scan server. Actually, with the addition of an external drive – the Fujitsu could replace the dino-dell. (Ubuntu)
• External DVD drive, a couple of blue tooth mice, really nice old IBM usb keyboard.
• A strange monitor/TV.

I fell off the new foto everyday wagon. I have been going crazy post processing my photographs from last summer in Japan. My disk drive is overstuffed and I have to move some things off. The Japan photos are slated to go to the backup drive ASAP.

I hate my ISP. DSL = Damn Slow Line. But, I also hate Verizon/Fios and Comcast.
