Today’s ordinary thing is a cicada that found its way up to our apartment. When I walked down to the farm market this morning I saw lots of birds and squirrels enjoying cicada-treats.
RIP, Betty Ford. After Eleanor Roosevelt, I think that Mrs Ford made more impact as First Lady than any other in my lifetime. Never mind Jackie’s fashion sense. Or Hilary’s political sense. Betty had common sense.
Today is the second bleakest day in US space travel. The bleakest was October 4, 1957. When Sputnik was launched. This was the sound of failurein my smallkidtime.
Grandmother Blanche was proud to have lived from before Kitty Hawk through Mercury. Grandmother Peggy is not proud to have lived from the V2 rocket era to seeing the US land on the Moon to US buying a ticket to ride on a Russian rocket. But, we do have reality TV shows.
Spent all day at my desk doing “stuff” for my volunteer job and taking care of the household accounts. About noon, in order to get a little break – I went over to the library. Our library grows veggies instead of flowers – so the local kids can see what a growing veggie looks like. Hey, it is very urban here.
So, my old picture today was of the library squash. Several other versions of the squash:
Day 36 - it doesn't get more ordinary than Carlton
WordPress wants me to upgrade, but I am using an old version of PHP. I am not sure I understand all I know about updating PHP. Time to upgrade my technical bona fides. On the other hand, I could just it and do Sudoku puzzles to stay off dementia.
If you never hear from me again, it will be because I destroyed everything by tweaking the the PHP process. It’s not happening any day soon.
First I have to finish being mourning the end of the US Space program. Couldn’t we give up – say tax breaks for billionaires and the wars – and once again “boldly go where no man has gone before”…
Went to the dentist today. I did not get my nice friendly hygienist. I got a dental nazi. When I checked out – I told them I wanted to see my regular person next time or there would not be a next next time.
After the dentist, I went off to volunteer job.
And from last night’s fireworks:
Night 34 - July 4, 2011 Fireworks
We had very nice fireworks on Saturday night after I got home and on Sunday. Great fireworks on the 4th. And, I suspect we might have some leftover fireworks tonight. We’ll see at about 9:15.
Just about back to normal after my trip west, and wild romp thru O’Hare airport. Went grocery shopping, did laundry today – all my normal weekend stuff.
Also tried to repair the ZS3. Well, I tried the whimpy repairs that do not involve taking it apart. I really think that the dust is well inside the lens – chances of my getting it out and getting the camera back together are slim to none. So for now, I am going to settle with having 3/4 of a camera.
The strange image to the left is whatever happens is what I planned. I stuck the vacuum hose over the lens and sucked away. Accidentally took a picture. Click to enlarge it. Vacuum cleaner colonoscopy.
The ordinary things photo from July 2 – a pile of hats atop a potted plant in the Albuquerque Airport. Or rather SUNport. It is called the SUNport. From the SUNport – one should be able to go to somewhere a damn site better than Chicago.
Yesterday was spent getting back home. I got off the plane in Chicago and had 12 minutes to get to my next flight over in the next terminal. What to do? Run. What else? Run fast. Run on the moving sidewalk. Excuse Me. Coming Thru. Move Over. Run down the stairs. Run up the escalators. Screech up to the gate after everyone else is on board. Only after I am sitting in my seat do I check my phone and discover that I had been rebooked on a flight out the next morning. Not my problem. Glad I didn’t check my phone prior to the mad dash. I would have spent the night in the Chicago airport. Or spent $100 on a hotel. Running was better. Aerobic connections.
And the “Ordinary Things” photo from July 3.
Day 33 - The Sword of Carlton
I decided that Ordinary Things do not have to be black and white. But can be. The hats seemed to work better in color.
Day 31 - Cool Chambers Stove in our vacation rental.
The July photo project will be one picture everyday of something real ordinary. Like a stove. July is not a good photography month in the DC area.
Getting ready to leave Truth or Consequences early tomorrow morning. I am hoping to use my iPod Touch as a boarding document. We’ll see how that works. Will have a paper backup. Sort of like an old man who wears suspenders and a belt.
OK, on the last day of Black and White Month – I used a picture from last week. Last Friday, I found this fine Rolls Royce parked in Santa Fe. Santa Fe is a Rolls Royce sort of a place.
Let’s look around Truth or Consequences.
On the Rio Grande - from "our" yardBet you don't have a "trailer court" in your town!If you have always wanted to own a 1930's era motor court - several are for sale.
