A much better day…

Throw Net Fishing

Today, I made two trips to the dentist. It is 1.25 miles each way. I went at 8AM to check them out and I guess they were checking me out too – because they decided that I could come back at 12 and the crown process would be started. At noon, I returned. At 3PM I was back on the road, walking back home.

A day doing dentist stuff was vastly finer than yesterday.

It is time to get my life back. Poor Carlton has been forced to enjoy another two days of sandwiches. Well, today’s sandwiches are augmented with deviled eggs. I love deviled eggs. (Do atheists eat deviled eggs?) So between dentist visits, I got some hard-boiled eggs at the local convenience store. And converted boring hard boiled eggs into Divine Deviled Eggs.

Not my very best day…

Cookbook

Not the cookbook. It is still OK.

It is myself that is falling apart. This morning while I was contemplating making a peanut butter, liliko`i jelly and banana sandwich – I got a nose bleed. A maxi-pad volume nose bleed. I got over that. Decided that I should not go swimming. Wouldn’t want to attract sharks. But the ocean was pretty rough anyhow. Ok that is problem #1.

Next, whilst dining on spam musubi the tooth that I had patched on January 4 by a most unsatisfactory dentist came apart. A call to that dental practice – and – I find out the unsatisfactory is no longer working there. And, no way they can see me until February 22. So, I am off on Dentist Quest. This is complicated by the fact that I am car-free. Many phone calls later I find a guy who will look at me tomorrow morning. And will start the repairs on Monday. With luck … if I am happy how the practice looks, maybe the dentist can start the repairs tomorrow morning. I so didn’t need this.

Now, “they” say that bad luck comes in threes. Don’t know if I have had 2 or 3 bad things today.

Almost out of cookbook purgatory. . .

Outside cover

Almost out of cookbook purgatory. Which is an improvement, because for the last 2 weeks I have been in cookbook hell.

Gotta love Carlton. He really doesn’t care what he eats – as long as the green beans are over cooked, the beef well done, and no garlic at all. So, while I have been working on the cookbook he has been cheerfully eating sandwiches. Well, these are the Sandwich Islands, are they not?

But all I need to do now is finish tweaking up the cover – front/back/inside/outside.

inside cover

I think the pictures need to be smaller. They look a little constrained…

Awe and the banyan

Today was photo processing day...

Casey and the Tutus

Thank goodness for Lightroom and Nik Software plugins.

I mocked up front and back covers and shipped them up the hill to Wal Mart for 1 hour printing. But I am not rushing up to get them. Tomorrow. After I defrost the fridge. I’ll hike up the hill. There is a Safeway up there too. So I can get some goodies for the nice clean fridge.

Now, time to check on my equity portfolio.

Still Working

Doing a photo shoot with a cheap underwater camera

Shooting the cover of our cookbook with my totally not up to the job underwater camera. Hopefully the lovely Awe, the fine old banyan tree and Lightroom will make everything all better.

I will be really glad when it is all finished and off to the printer. With luck, I can be safely back on the mainland before it gets back from the printer. Unfortunately a Volume 2 is supposed to happen. I’ll worry about that one later.

The “Kitchen”

The Kitchen...

Four months out of twelve – this is my kitchen.

This might not be much of a kitchen, but my wet suit is getting more than a little snug and I refuse to buy a bigger one. Maybe it shrunk. Yeah, right.

Monthly Hot Rod Event

On the 3rd Saturday of every month – almost – the local hot rod club meets in the nearby strip mall. Carlton, ever on the lookout for a cheap date,  decided it was senior citizen date night and we walked up to look at hot rods.  Most of the hot rodders were also senior citizens.

Faze One of Cookbook Done

Things are looking better. Yesterday I finished getting way too many recipes stuffed into my cookbook format. I went to visit the printer this morning. We discussed margins, photos, etc. etc.  Now someone else has to cut the way too many recipes down to a manageable number. And proof read the selected ones.

The only task for me for now is to do a “photo shoot” for the cover tomorrow. A “photo shoot” with my  orange cheapass point and shoot beach camera!

Today – I walked 5 miles whilst doing my daily chores and this afternoon went  for a long swim. I did not take my camera for a swim. Not until after the “photo shoot”.

Gotta say I have been enjoying the Republican Follies. Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. Remember Barry Goldwater boys and girls.?

Still Cookbooking

Keeping Kona Country

Well, I guess that the sheep shearing class was a success. Yesterday’s paper reported on a gentleman who was accused of beating another distinguished citizen of our village with a cow bone. I don’t think the folk who have “keep kona country” stickers on their trucks have anything to worry about.

I am still completely buried by the cookbook project. I don’t want to think about how much more must be done.

Nice Day – Unless…

Nice Day ... Unless

Sunday was a lovely day, unless you were on the Spirit of Kona when the waves came up. It took the boat 30 minutes to dock. I helped the passengers stagger off. Fortunately, none of them barfed on me. I think they were too afraid to barf.

Been working on the Palace cookbook. So, I haven’t been much interested in spending any additional time at the computer.

A Fine Day

Kailua Pier

A fine day in exciting downtown Kailua Kona. High School canoe races today. I swam out to the start/finish line. Took some pictures on land and at sea. The pictures are still in the camera. I only open the camera up in well air conditioned quarters. Our room is not well air conditioned.

The hunter-gatherer is awash in bananas and avocados. Not a real big problem. There is still room in the fridge for beer.

Still liking the Kindle. Got bored during the football game and checked out a trashy Kindle format novel from the Arlington Library. In 5 minutes I was reading away.

Friday the 13th

Gotta have shoes.

Another one from the local paper. Carlton caught this  just after the new year. No wood working or musical skill required. But, you gotta have shoes! And no, that isn’t some newspaper folding or Photoshop trick.

Mac&cheese with avocado and tomato and spinach salad for lunch today. And sandwiches with deviled eggs for dinner. Take that cholesterol count!
