Day10 The good, the bad, the ugly…

The good
At least I hope this is good. Mr C got our unit for the next 2 years at our same high rent. The way I figure it, two years will give us enough time to come up with Plan B. Also, I figure that Carlton’s cancer will be most likely to return within two years if the Death Star didn’t get it all. So, two years is a good time.

The bad

My toe doesn’t seem to be up to the walking program. Well, that is too bad. The toe will have to get with the program.

The ugly

20140128-131243.jpg
And this is why the diet/fitness program. I was going to get rid of these shorts this year anyhow. They are waaaaay tooooo short for a 70 year old woman. But they are going to fit. I hope.

Day 9

20140127-161139.jpg

Took this Photo with my old iPod while on my walk this morning. Every thing was ready for its arrival. Carlton was called in for an extra shift. Tour buses were stacked up. The most unsavory folk had been removed from the pier. But the passengers never arrived. Seems they couldn’t get the tenders launched.  That would make you real happy if you were a passenger — since the tenders are also the lifeboats.

But, I had a nice swim.  A nicer swim sans tenders. And I logged 6.77 miles today. I good thing since friends has us over for lunch. Shrimp, avocado, croissant, pie, ice cream and wine. All good.

Day 7

20140125-162551.jpg
A guy comes down to the pier. Sets up a folding chair. Gets a mask and a single fin out of a bag. Straps a dive knife on his left leg. He sits on the pier. Removes his right leg. Leaves the leg on the pier and swims away.

My dear friend, Carlton gave me a cold. He caught it from his seat mate on the plane. I am pretty sure that some evil virus will be unleashed on humankind via the coach passengers on a plane.

In deference to my cold, I only walked 5.1 miles today.

Day 6

20140124-171824.jpg
Another nice day. Walked 6.6 miles. The ocean was still a little unfriendly, so no swimming.

Day 5

20140123-160102.jpg
Feisty ferrel kitty.

You all know that I am not a wildlife photographer. But I stopped to take a picture of this feral kitty. I pretended it was a tiger and I was on Safari in Africa.

We did get some waves today. But they were jumped as far as surfing went because of the wind. But that didn’t stop a few of the guys from trying.

A bad day surfing beats a good day at the office.

In my crazed fitness campaign today I logged 6.4 miles.  We had meatloaf, potato salad and Brussels sprouts for lunch. Avocado and tomato sandwiches on tap for dinner. Carlton watched tennis on TV. Life is is good.

Day 4

20140122-142021.jpg
Coming rains … I did not get back to the hotel in time!

We were promised wind, rain and big choppy waves. So far, we have had rain.

I got completely and thoroughly soaked during my 5 mile walk today, but I am not complaining that is way better than the 10° we had back home today.

So far so good with Carlton’s health. I have declared him back to normal (for now). I can even get crabby with him especially when I find him without his shirt on.

I find that the voice dictation system in the iPad works really well, easier than typing on the tiny little keyboard.

Day 3

20140121-165009.jpg
Watching for for waves that are not happening today

Windy and cloudy right now, we might have big waves tomorrow. They will have big waves on the other islands just don’t know how big they will be by the time they get here.  “They” say the waves will be 50 foot faces on Oahu with 18 footers on our island. We are on a bay. Arrival time late tomorrow AM. We’ll see…

I rather overdid my exercise routine today. After I walked 5 1/4 miles I was all done for the rest of the day. Did a little yoga and declared it too cold and cloudy for swimming.

And for all my friends in the snow here’s one from my walk this morning.

Day 2

20140120-140433.jpg
Oops that black border is a bit much.

Walking done. Yoga done. Swim later. That is about it.

20140120-140901.jpgNow, about that rambutan. This is the part you eat. Seven calories of juicy sweetness.

Not completely at home with my computer free life. I miss my Lightroom. But this is good too. I just deleted about 100 photos from my SD card.  And frankly nobody will ever miss then.

Day one

20140119-182817.jpg
Serious case of jet lag.

20140119-183803.jpgWent to grocery store. And farm market. And for a small swim. And strolled around the village looking for “what’s new”.

that thing is a rambutan. You eat it.

Arrived alive

1055 mountain time.

So far So good. We are flying over the flat part of America right now. And the snow is gone. Mr C is in the next row. I see him reading his kindle. I got mad at him this morning, it was actually good to be mad at him. It has been months since I let myself get annoyed with him. But, unplugging my WiFi is an annoy worthy action.

20140118-203946.jpg

We got to the hotel at about 7:30 PM. I went over to the ABC Store (think 7-11) and picked up beer, sandwiches, Doritos and yogurt. That was dinner and will be breakfast. Then we went f a small walk. And then I declared myself done for the day.

Using my cell connection with the iPad right now…

Almost ready…

20140117-165831.jpg

Bags packed. Boarding passes printed. Toys charged. Are we there yet?

Still have a few things to do… I told Mr that he is responsible for feeding himself from 8AM tomorrow morning until noon Sunday. He filled up a ziplock bag with granola bars. If the plane makes it to Phoenix on time, I’ll get a sandwich.

When I travel alone, I eat in restaurants, bars, and grab stuff from airport food cars. But, when Mr C is along – his aversion to “eating out” reduces my dining options to Luna Bars. I do go to Starbucks and nicely ask “Do you want something from Starbucks?” “No, he will grumble, I am fine”. And, my great guilty travel pleasure is Egg McMuffins. I love Egg McMuffins. But, I only eat them in airports.

Ok – I am back… I took a break to clean out the fridge. And, I broke down and made a couple of ham and cheese sandwiches for us to take on the plane. I sort of miss the old days. When we complained about airplane food.

Hitting the Metro at about 0800 hours tomorrow morning.

That’s Better…

Cleaned the kitchen. Picked up drugs at the pharmacy. Tossed a couple of pair of scuffy shorts, some t-shirts, several swimsuits, mask and snorkel, de minimis undergarments in my backpack. I don’t have an underwater camera at this instant. (mine flooded last winter.) But, that is why we have Amazon. I’ll take one of my cameras and my iPad Mini and the beloved iPod. And the Kindle which is not electronics gear – it is a book.  Might have to pick up additional SD cards. But, that is why we have Amazon.

Now, what am I going to do about my blubbery body? I could do the old eat half as much/exercise twice as much routine. The next 6 weeks is going to be all about ME. As long as Mr C is OK. And, I think he’ll be fine, for now.
