At least I don’t have to water anything.
So, what did I do today? Very little. Hit the dreadmill. Tweaked my investments a bit. Read a book. Took a nap.

Nobody is Promised Tomorrow. . .

When Carlton was sick an old girlfriend of his sent me a few pictures of him – back when he was “hers”. Apparently, she told him to go fly a kite too!
The rain continues. Time to round up those plans for the ark. I know they are around here somewhere. 300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in width and 30 cubits in height (450 × 75 × 45 ft). But, I am going to leave some of the critters behind. Starting with mosquitoes. But, then again, mosquitoes feed a hell of a lot of birds and bats in the northern regions. So, I might have to take them. Maybe humans should be left behind. Not sure that we do any good.
Since I don’t work on Friday – my weekend starts now. And I am very ready for some down time.

It rained again today. So, for another day I did not have to water anything.
I got back on the dreadmill this morning. I was a little more cautious today.
Took pictures at the Asylum Garden Party this afternoon. Garden Party was moved indoors. Stopped in to see what was happening at a meeting of the Finance Committee. Verdict: Not much was happening.

The over the hill gang and augmented reality is a hoot. The lady in turquoise tried to jack me up for taking her picture. So, I showed her the image. And told her I wasn’t taking her picture, I was taking a picture of the Stormtrooper. She starts looking around “Where did it go?” “Where is it now?”
Back to the office tomorrow for a sanity check.
Our little volcano issue in Hawai’i… The USGS has some webcams. They update about every 60 seconds. Check them out. Volcano Observatory Web Cams.
I am getting old and boring. Heck, I even bore me. Maybe that is how I will die. I will actually bore myself to death.
Ah, but there are worse things in life than being bored. All I need to do is look back at the 2013/2014 blog entries and remember when every day was a new terror. And boring seemed really good. Boring is still good.
It isn’t boring outside – another big thunderstorm this evening. Nearly all of our thunderstorms come from the west and my 3 windows face dead east. So, now great lightning shot chances.
Working around in my head a little PR presentation to remind my fellow residents about our “resident maintained” Garden. That is where “my” weed lot is located. I don’t like anything about my presentation yet. But, it is a start. And I was always better at fixing things than I was at building things. SO, I have something to “fix”.
PS – I don’t recommend wasting 5 minutes watching the video. I rendered it as “draft” quality and squished the hell out of it with Handbrake. I just love Handbrake.

But, the rain is here now. No interesting lightning, so far at least.

At this instant, it is pouring on the Knoll Garden. That is where my weed lot is located. I can see it from my window. And I presume it is also raining on the other side of our building where my garden box is located. Another 2 days without watering. All good.

It rained last night, so after lunch, I figured it would be good to book some weeding time.

And what to my surprise – overnight “my” peonies started opening. They aren’t really “my” peonies. I am just their current caretaker. But, I did stake them up and will get them a shot of fertilizer. Think the first massive weed removal process is done. Now, it is sort of wait and see what blooms and what doesn’t.
The garden box is doing fine.

Weed Lot and Garden Box- week 2
And, since I am an old Park Service person and we did a season a Volcano NP. Let us look back to May of 1924 when Madam Pele was kicking up things inKīlauea . During that cycle lava invaded the water table with explosive consequences. That is a concern this time as well.

The full caption on this photo is:
09:13 Explosion cloud. May 24, 1924. [photo caption] Tai Sing Loo 1065. Explosion cloud, Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii National Park. 9:13 a.m. May 24, 1924. [While this photo label indicates the time as 09:13 that is the time that this explosive sequence begins. Based on other photos taken the same day and the Record Book notations it appears more likely that the actual time of the photo was towards the end of the explosions, somewhere around 09:20.This Tai Sing Loo image, featured in the Honolulu Star Bulletin of May 26, 1924. Caption: “The crowd of visitors off the Haleakala and Matsonia Saturday morning witnessing an eruption from in front of the Volcano House. They were warned subsequently by Roy H. Finch, in charge of the observatory, that it was unwise to remain there.” ]
Note that park visitors were better dressed but not necessarily smarter than today’s visitors.
Check out the photo archive. Kīlauea -1924.

I was double stupid today. 20 minutes into my time on the dreadmill this AM – I decide that I am tired of my audiobook and I need some good old rock and roll music.
So, with the treadmill running at 4.5 miles per hour – I start messing with my phone. I get run right off that thing. SO, what to do but John Wayne it. Hop back on. But, I didn’t turn the damn thing off. Back on the floor. Again. I slink out of the gym. Only one person saw me – but that was one too many. And what if it is on the security films.
I was much more embarrassed than injured. Think I might be a little sore tomorrow.
Felt that I have been neglecting my “real” camera gear since Shamu 2 arrived with it’s AR features. So, I took my injured pride out and made pictures around the Asylum.

And a study in all things onion.

And today’s iris efforts are up top.
And this afternoon I went to a funeral mass for a recently departed resident. Our chaplain is usually more like an MC at our funerals. But, this one was for an Episcopal bishop so she got to show off all of her liturgical chops.
Only 4.7 miles on the fitbit today.

Didn’t take many pictures today – but, they are mildly interesting. Using Shamu 2.
Started the day with a nice sunrise.

Almost everyday, I walk by this fine old truck that is parked on the side of the road. Today, I took a a picture. I may have to take some serious shots of it.
Later – while glaring at my weed lot and trying to make it rain so I would not have to water – I took a quick shot for my neighbor weeder…we were wondering what had sprung up in his section.

Think it is a zephyranthes minuta.
And finally, as I was settling in to update the blog – a rainbow. Well, I had to see if Shamu 2 could capture a faint and distant rainbow.

And it can – with a little help from Photoshop.
The 53 Chevy is my favorite.
And since I don’t work on Friday anymore – It’s Aloha Thursday!

I was in my closet this morning and wondered how did that old woman get in my mirror! And, I haven’t done my 2018 selfie. So, here it is.
Pretty boring day. Hey, boring is OK. Actually, it is good. But, first class in the weather department.
Did a little work in my weed patch and took some more unsatisfactory photos of iris. (See header).
Back to work tomorrow to get some rest!

Well, I actually do take pictures of the iris. I just don’t like the results. Oh well, another iris season is underway. Maybe this is my year. Or not.

This was primary election day in some parts of the country. I am almost afraid to see the results. I am so very glad that Mr C didn’t live to see what the world has come to. I think that the greater forces in the universe are expressing displeasure with us humans even now in the extreme south eastern part of Hawai’i. But what that part of Hawai’i ever did to any one except grow some fine weed I don’t know.

Back in March I got all excited: There was music from the 90s on the piano. But wait. It was the 1890’s. Heck at that time our oldest resident was 106 and even he wasn’t alive in the 1890s. (And, he isn’t alive now. No one gets out of here alive.)
And then

this shows up. I presume they mean 1920s etc. And I am just guessing – but I bet they have no tunes by Blind Lemon Jefferson in that collection. Maybe not even Fats Waller or Satchmo.
New yoga class at the Asylum this afternoon. It was an OK class and I feel like I need to support it. So, I will try to become a “regular”. If I judged it as a “yoga class” it would get a D+ but, I think it only far to just it as a “senior yoga-like” class and it gets a good solid B.
Well, enough about The Asylum.
