If I wanted…

If I wanted to be in DC in January, I’d be in DC in January. I am SOOOOOOOoooooo tired of cloudy, windy, damp and cold. Can I please go to Tokyo? I bet they have cherry blossoms and spring.

Nothing is happening, Carlton-wise. No word about when he will have surgery. I think:

  • He fell off the physician’s office to do list and
  • He needs to light a fire under them.

Better fire up my blow torch. I’ll light a fire under somebody.

911 … There has been a robbery

Someone has stolen spring, and I want it back.
Someone took my spring, and I want it back.

Snow day from the bedroom window. Momma Nature is, once again, showing us who is actually in charge.

My dentist cancelled on account of snow. That is rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon. Mr C’s surgeon said no surgery this week. Maybe next week or the week after. Surgeon also told him to cool it with the hernia surgery until he gets the cancer thing taken out. I think this is a good plan.

So, we are back in wait mode.

Once again …

Once again – shameless self promotion to get 10 bucks off my next order.

Every year, since 2000, I have printed a book of my best/favorite photos of the year. I usually don’t include any photos that I put in any other books that year. Hence only one photo from the Great North American Train Trip is included in the 2012 Favorites book.
So, why exactly do I do this. It is sort of an exercise to see what I saw during the year. And, I am sure that when I am in the old ladies home, with a cat and memories for company – I will enjoy looking at them.

Will winter please leave, already?

Casey Ballao - Carlton's Boss in Hawai'i
Casey Ballao – Carlton’s Boss in Hawai’i

“They” say that the weather is going to be wintery tomorrow. I plan to make a nice pot of soup tomorrow.

Carlton saw last night’s meteor. I was cooking dinner and missed it. I am bummed out. And, the other afternoon he saw a bald eagle soaring by the window. The goddess is blessing him. He wonders if it is a sign.

Still Cold

P1060753-EditWe are sort of on hold. Mr C’s new primary care physician says the he is “healthy” enough to get operated on. Think about that. Waiting to hear when surgery starts.

I am not as frantic as I was yesterday. Nothing has changed. If there is no solution – there is no problem.

Found out today that an old coworker recently died. Bob Haldeman. (No not the Bob Haldeman.) Bob was the original “Officer and Gentleman”.

Not a real happy time…

This post needs a happy picture.
This post needs a happy picture.

Well, it is cold. And “they” say it is going to continue being cold or cold and wet for the foreseeable future. I am not foreseeing very far ahead. Actually “they” are predicting 52 and sunny for next Thursday. Let us just say that I put the heavy liner in my raincoat on Monday. Remember… I don’t really have any winter clothes. Winter is something that I try to avoid. And, I am too fat to fit in my jeans…

Carlton went to see a plastic surgeon yesterday morning. She was a real sweetie. I was happy to see that she was more “surgeon” than “plastic” I know we have at least one plastic surgery group in our hospital that mainly produces “Barbie Dolls”. I am sure this lady would be willing to perk up my ta-tas but she does lots of reconstruction and wound care. All good there. Then he went, by himself, to see the primary care doc that I picked out for him. Another nice young woman doctor. Props to her, because, she got him to start taking blood pressure meds. I am not sure he’ll keep taking them. But the doc told him that the anesthesia doctors wouldn’t touch him with his BP being way too high. All good here too.

The surgeon and the plastic surgeon want to excise the cancer. Leave the hole – as big as his hand – open for a week and then let the plastic surgeon stitch him up. Mr C. wants to be closed up after the surgery. Not good here yet. It is hard to tell what is good medical practice, what is revenue enhancement and what is malpractice ass cover.

Now, this is funny – all of sudden Mr C turns up with a hernia. Every doctor has told Carlton to just chill about the hernia for now. But, he is trying to get it fixed at the same time as the skin cancer thing.

Still no spring…

Message in a bottle?
Message in a bottle?

Ignoring his wishes and protests – I went with Mr C to see his surgeon this afternoon. He is set up to see a primary care doctor and a plastic surgeon tomorrow. The primary care doc is to see if he is healthy enough to get operated on. The plastic surgeon is supposed to be on the job to “do something about” the huge crater that the surgeon plans on leaving on his chest.

No signs of spring, but…

Great news, I think. I hope.

The morning Mr C stopped by Hospital and got a copy of his MRI report. Now, I am not a Doctor. I don’t play one on TV and I didn’t sleep in a Holiday Inn last night.

But, IMHO: “… no osseous involvement detected…” sounds like the cancer hasn’t started munching away on his sternum “yet”. I am not ruling out that sooner or later this metastatic squamous cell cancer will get him – but, I think for now – it is later and not sooner. And that is good enough for me.

OH Goody – We aren’t going to have snow tonight after all. We are going to have ice pellets. But, even that doesn’t bother me today.

Looking for Spring

A Hint of Spring
A Hint of Spring

Found a little hint of spring by Whole Foods this morning.

Mr C had his MRI yesterday AM. He rather enjoyed the process. I imagine that he will hear from his surgeon Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

He just told me to “Pick out a Movie”. Guess tonight is movie night. Turfed it back to him. He selected a Batman movie.

Free My Mini Swiss Army Knife

My beloved really old mini knife
My beloved really old mini knife

I really hope that my little Swiss Army knife is allowed back on planes.

Today, I assessed the damages caused by gaining 10 pounds. One pair of jeans and one pencil skirt are definite casualties. But, everything else “fits”. Carlton said “why don’t you just get a new skirt and you have of jeans that fit and just forget about it?” Would that it were that simple. Only a really skinny man would think that would work. And that I wouldn’t end up 20 pounds fatter by this time next year.

Speaking of Carlton. Favors were called in, his MRI appointment was moved up to tomorrow.

Some Oldies

This is still an excellent notion.
This is still an excellent notion.

A friend in Hawai’i called this afternoon wanting a specific picture. It was a great excuse to look thru lots of old pictures.

Big Waves At the End of the World
Big Waves At the End of the World

Carlton went to see the surgeon today. He came away with visit to the MRI scheduled for next Tuesday. So, we’ll keep on pretenting everything is OK for another week. Works for me.
